I was trying to find this scene because I forgot what the background song was. Thank you and thanks Bon Jovi

The coopers were terrible parents. They enabled sheldon and let him get away with too much. They even let him back talk them. If he had pulled that with my dad, he would gotten the shit slapped out of him and then a belt to the butt. Sheldon could have done with some good old fashioned discipline. Maybe he wouldn’t have turned out to be an asshole.

In the 80's in Texas & being a southern baptist the way parents dealt with such disobedience was whipping Sheldon with a belt until he did what he was told. No ifs nor buts about it. When words failed the belt begins a whippin & no child wants to deal with that belt again. Not to mention that Texas principles, teachers, & coaches can use paddles with holes in the middle to reduce wind resistance. Then when you got home and your parents already know about it, then you got belt whooping as well. And if your parents were mad enough, you had to go into the backyard and pick out switch. It was brutal in the 80's.

That's a lot of different side dishes they have. There's baked beans, coleslaw, mac and cheese and what looks green cabbage and cornbread muffins.

I say as long as a student understands the material and grades are stellar, going to class doesn't matter. My teachers let me play my PS Vita in class because I was locked in when it came to grades, hell I used World History to sleep because we'd always watch a video and I could not stay awake in a dark room. Still got an A in the class. Simply put... I was impatient. I couldn't stand listening to long lectures, my attention just went to outer space because it was BORING! I preferred to read the material on my own in a quiet setting because I could always reach the answers more succinctly that way. I wasn't some genius savant or anything though and I'm still not, just that the normal curriculum wasn't fast-paced enough for me.

I'm sorry George, but if my science teacher was reading a book in a super boring voice and tone instead of actual teaching, and I had Sheldon's brain, I'd also start a citadel.

This is such a great scene, with a good balance of the serious and the humorous, and all of it so human. John shows actual social/emotional awareness, acknowledges how the others may feel, and lets them know right away what his own boundaries are. The kids ask good questions (Missy's is actually the smartest IMO) and John answers in a way that is age-appropriate but not condescending.

1:21 whats sweet in the 80s is that cellphone and internet dont exist, so best pals knows when to visit their friends and have a nice beer. While its more convienient todays because of cellphones and internet, friendship back in the 80s means a lot than it is today.

To be fair, apparently, my brother in law decided to marry my sister after already having two kids with her. When he saw her driving around topless on an ATV in a private area of the woods, whooping and hollering. My sister was so embarrassed when the sister in law revealed it at the bachelorette party.
