Terrific review man, finally somebody agrees with me how masterful and truly underrated Folie A Deux is. There are far worse movies this year, Mufasa The Lion King, Kraven The Hunter, Kung Fu Panda 4, Venom The Last Dance and Despicable Me 4 for example. To me this film is just as strong as Joker 2019 and took risks, it's so unique being a musical too and the Joker is my favourite musical number in the movie. And the acting from the entire cast is some of the finest acting of 2024!

Maybe not the worst movie ever made but pretty bad. The first movie had its issues, but at least there was something to like about the main character. This was just a sad, slow, boring movie about a sad, weak, pathetic person with really no redeeming qualities, except maybe we feel sorry for all the abuse he’s been through. But I guess some people are into that.

I predicted that the mother had passed away. I think THAT part of the ending is good, because the show did a great job at combining comedy with serious, heart-breaking moments (Marshall's dad, Robin's infertility). But Ted getting back with Robin is terrible. I wish they had been more like "dad, you've been telling us this story, but mom is barely in it, you just wanted to talk about your friends". Then we see the gang getting together, we see that Ted still has his chosen family. We can see the fun continuing, and the gang all being there for Ted and his kids. We could land on something heart-warming like "and kids, maybe that was what this was all about... All the people we meet along the way." :')

I don't comment a lot, but I wanted to say that I have been a fan of this show for years and i've seen it three times now. Your analysis of la vie en rose was really great and it made me see Teds journey in a different light. Highlighting the difference in ted hoping for what he had wanted to happen (even though it won't), and hoping for something that actually has a chance of happening. It's even more powerful to do and even more fitting for ted as an inherently romantic person! It got across really well and I wanted to thank you for making me appreciate this show even more than I already did! Amazing!

What do you mean the mother dieing came out of nowhere? Its strongly suggested ever since that s8 episode where ted imagines hes talking to future ted and future barney. In fact its obvious
@talancorwellАй бұрын
I don't disagree but it's still very abrupt in the finale. It's like dipping your toes into the pool, then suddenly being pushed into the deep end. We get all of one minute after actually confirming her death to process the info before the episode moves on to Ted getting back together with Robin. Ted gets 5+ years to mourn Tracy but we get literal seconds
@talancorwellАй бұрын
In my opinion, an ending where Tracy dies and we get to mourn her alongside Ted has the potential to be far more powerful than the *passable* alternate ending we got. But the original ending is still terrible
@stepanlutchenkov5894Ай бұрын
Well - I think a perfect sitcom could do without a „guy banging everything that has a skirt“ character. It might have been somewhat acceptable like 40 years ago, but it’s not funny nor cool.
@OferGevaAnimationАй бұрын
I think the analysis of the show as “the story of how Ted learned to let go” is interesting and frames everything very interestingly. But the show IS about the love story between Ted and Robin. That is why the original ending makes sense. You can’t compare “falling in love” with a character you met for 1 hour of screen time and was genetically engineered to be perfect with no flaws and how much the audience is connected and invested in the relationship with Robin. That is why the stupid balloon episode was so contrived. Because it was half-hearted from Ted’s perspective too. The show was from the start “How I met your aunt Robin”. Hating on the original ending is not understanding the show.
@LIncolnHoffmannАй бұрын
In my opinion they should have made one more episode to help make the ending that aired more definitive by 1. Give more Ted and his wife which is always wanted and would cement how much they loved each other and how for 9 years he’s been coping with the loss of the love of his life showing he’s ready to love again kind of like Tracy did as one final parallel between the two 2. Show robin that she has settled down and retired early enjoying a peaceful life but missing something 3. Also show the chemistry between ted and robin that his daughter was talking about then you end with him getting the French horn one final time to give to robin

I actually find myself really happy that I feel I got the message they were trying to convey in this movie. I've seen it now two times the first time I loved it so much I thought my mom would love it and she saw it with me as well and was even able to talk to me more about the meanings behind the songs they chose to sing in the movie. Each song used in the movie is not of my generation and a lot of them are very old songs that people may not be familiar with. Learning this the second time watching it even made me love the movie even more. I loved that they did not take this movie to the typical action packed superhero or super villain vibe. They collectively chose to take a path that was extremely more artistic one that you had to really pay attention to and read every word on the screen to interpret and understand. I think there are a lot of euphemisms used in this film that really even make you question if Harley Quinn was real here. I really appreciate what this movie brought to the table and I do understand why a lot of people do not connect with it because typically when we're talking about the joker or Batman or the penguin we are talking about drugs and violence and riots and gangs. There was a reason this movie had two very simple settings so they could really tell a much different story than all of the movies in this gene have told. I think personally they shouldn't have billed it as a musical because even Lady Gaga talked deeply about when she was acting and singing in this movie she wanted to purposely change her vocals to sound as if she was not a real singer. She admitted this was very difficult for her to achieve and that she had to go to months of lessons of practising to make her voice sound this way. They wanted you to feel just a lot of Rawness from the characters but didn't want to be very direct with you with what the characters were thinking and feeling. This is the reason why they use a lot of these older songs in the movie and probably why a lot of the audience did not understand. A lot of the songs she used in the movie have a meeting all on their own when they were created and written and performed. I do believe that each song comes from a certain time period for music and I believe that no song used in the movie was from the same period. Again it was interesting to watch this movie with my 65-year-old mother who really doesn't like action movies but was a social worker for 15 years. My mom really connected with the first film coming from a social workers perspective because the first film really identifies mental health crisis in America and the lack of support that most people get or are not getting. The ending in this movie did not surprise me at all in fact it actually made more sense especially in the beginning when they use the cartoon about the shadow. Learning that he is really not the joker was I believe the entire shocking reveal to the audience. It's like when somebody gets diagnosed as being bipolar, they start getting on MEDS, they go to therapy and maybe several years later they've changed their whole lifestyle are no longer on medication and living a very happy life. Even though you've been diagnosis bipolar you are not the diagnosis. The diagnosis to simply help you understand maybe the reason why you are doing the behaviour doing and it's not an excuse for that behaviour in anyway. In this particular storyline with Arthur Fleck we see all of the Incredibles horrific traumatic events that he has had to endure throughout his life how he has survived and then what he comes to believe is his identity. This movie only amplify how someone suffering from a mental illness really has to go on a path to finding themselves again. I related to it a lot actually as someone who came out as gay and trying to discover myself and who I was without being the label of "gay". Harley Quinn in this movie I think has a very interesting character because her point is to just simply show even more when a person goes through when they idolise someone or something. We can look at this as idolising the stars of Hollywood and how really as it said in many different religions that we are worshipping false idols. When we do this we get disconnected from our true sounds, our higher selves and even God. Harley wanted so badly just to simply breathe the same air as the joker putting all her identity in what he would offer her in the world while not having any spotlight on who she was as an individual. I believe that's why in the end she ultimately leaves him in again I still kind of toy back-and-forth whether the character was really real. So much of the movie is fantasy and I'm sure everyone has their interpretation. I just think it was a movie that exceeded my expectations something that I had talked about for so many days afterward and analysed. I know everyone has their own taste but this movie really makes you dive deep in without it being so direct.

I watched this show every year since 2013, and as I grew up my impression grew with me. I used to hate Robin for what Ted went through but growing up I realized that A. Ted wasn’t in love with Robin initially. He was fixated on her. He had this big romantic fantasy of what being with her would be like much like Ted does with many other things as you’ll see in his narrative, including the slutty pumpkin he waited 10yrs for without actually knowing or loving. He knows where Robin stands on kids and a traditional marriage from the beginning, and that he stands on the opposite side yet he fights for her anyway. Then when he has her, he expects her to change her mind but he’s not willing to change his, and then they have a painful breakup. The pain was not necessary and could’ve been avoided. Robin sees things for what they are and after being hung on him from seasons 1-3, she moves on. Ted temporarily does too, or so we think. Ted keeps falling in and out of love with Robin but the thing between them doesn’t go away, she sees that obstacle he refuses to. B. She experiences a beautiful character arc where she slowly allows herself truly fall in love with Ted, allows herself choose love over the one constant in her life which is her career (with Don), and finally lets herself find love with someone who is similar to her, who things can actually work with (Barney). Ted always dreamt of having kids, Barney didn’t want any. Barney is less traditional, more rough around the edges like her. She chooses a person with whom it could realistically work and in the moment she falls in love with Barney, she’s not in love with Ted anymore. Barney is her happy ending. C. I think he did let go of her and had a happy life with the Tracy and Robin did with Barney. But as life sucks and Ted’s happy ending dies and Robin is divorced from hers, they get a chance to reconnect and find happiness with each other again. You can let go of something now and in the future find it again, that’s just life. This time, the things that stood in their way are now gone (Ted’s fantasy of the kind of home he wants and Robin’s desire to be fulfilled in her career) and they can allow themselves love without holding back and for me, that’s a beautiful ending. It wasn’t that Robin didn’t love Ted, I think she always did even though it changed at some point. It was always about timing, now that the timing was right, coast was clear. Also it’s a classic misdirection where you’ve been focusing on the yellow umbrella but it was about the blue horn the whole time! I liked the ending. It was settled and realistic. It would’ve been better if we saw more of Ted and the mother and him and Robin rekindling their friendship/romance. D. It’s the story of how Ted let go of his childish fixation and let himself meet someone who is really what he wants (the mother) and how he manages to go through life in her death and find Robin again this time, the real Robin not the Robin he wants her to be.

BIN fuckin GO, can you scream it a bit louder so the people in the back can hear? I've been saying this for years, it's like people refuse to except this fact and rewrite history just to say that the ending doesn't make sense when it does, that mentality has ruined this show legacy, not the ending. That being said, no re-watch of the show is complete without watching the alternate ending, that end monolog about how we got here is just perfect, with it was in the actual ending.

Because he feels guilty to have Feelings for Robin again, while his Kid just want him to be happy, just like he does with Robin. While I do hate the ending, I think that the alternative one would not make sense and would leave out so many holes in the show, like when Ted cried at the restaurant with Tracey, or when he said if he could go back in time he would meet her 45 days earlier than he did. It would not make sense for her to still be alive in the future. But this ending was horrible because it destroyed every progress this show has made with the characters and their relationships and dynamic. I feel like they had to stick to it because they already shot that scene with the kids about 8 years earlier.

I agree. It was way to rushed and crammed into two 22 minute episodes. But I like what they did if I put aside the rushed part.
