I’m 24 and I just started playing cello. I love it! It’s my favourite thing to do. It’s not too difficult to learn and it really immerses you in the music. Such a beautiful instrument to play

You might be surprised how other things you may have been learning as you go a long in life you may be able to apply to this. I am 63 and fully intend to learn to play the cello before I die. I have found there is some sort of quantum physics that comes into play when I learn new things at my age. Good luck to you and enjoy!

I'm 56 and just started (though I was a music major decades back, so it's not a first instrument). Also a 외국인.

Thank you for sharing, I'm 26 and I've never played an instrument in my life. Can't even read music but I really want to learn to play the Cello. It's my favorite instrument, I get so emotional when I hear the sound of the cello, it's so beautiful. It helps to know there are others out there and its not impossible to pursue something new🙏🏻🌻 wish me luck finding someone patient enough to teach me😂😅

Well done! Thanks for sharing. I'm looking to begin cello this year (2024). You've helped me to be realistic about expectations, and also to motivate me to practice! Hope that you're making lots of progress and enjoying playing too.

Also 42 and a Mom of 3.Always wanted to learn a music instrument, and the Cello is something I considered for a while. Just have to find the time to do it, as 2 out of the 3 kiddos are still little. I was wondering how I will be doing once I find time, considering my age. Please let me know your progress and good luck 😊

I just had my first lesson today and I didn't get past the bow hold 😅 I'm 29 and apparently I can't relax my shoulder and arm enough! Guess adult life has had its consequences haha. Just wanted to ask what kind of cello did you buy (second hand/brand new? brand etc). Thanks for motivating us! Hope I can be as good as you in 6 months!

Thanks for the video. I am right now quite frustrated with the awful sound that I make with my cello (5 months in learning at age 38 now). Perhaps it just takes much time to sound good :<|

Are you still playing/learning? I started learning the cello at the beginning of 2019. I was "only" 43 then. It's been amazing and I'm so glad I did! I joined a community orchestra after only a year of playing and even though I was in completely over my head, it's been a blast and I highly recommend playing with others if you have the chance. I would love to see a progress video of where you're at today! For anyone else out there who've been thinking of learning cello and wondering if it's too late for you, IT'S NOT! people in their 60s and 70s and later start learning cello for the first time and love it.

I think most people begin when young b/c they have parents who can pay for it coupled with the time to learn. I'm beginning in my 50's, saddled with a demanding full-time job, a mortgage, and a desperate need for a new car very soon. In other words, I'm a bit cash strapped. But, I'm not letting that keep me from learning the cello. Mine is a "toy" as you say. It came directly from China, regularly $250 USD, on sale for $180 from a company going out of business and liquidating inventory. Yes, it is cheap, but it sounds surprisingly good, especially when I got better strings and a better bow. Setup I did myself, using online references and translating from my own experience with a bass guitar with a floating bridge. I'm learning musical notation from books and online resources (bass tab is easily had - no such animal for cello), finding inspiration from people like you, and tackling playing with a couple of books, a dvd course, and structured online courses from Udemy that I caught on sale. It is not ideal, but it does make learning possible - better than nothing. I intend to take myself as far as I can with what I've got. Then, after I've built a house and replaced my 18 y.o. Toyota with a bashed in butt, maybe a teacher will be financially feasible, along with a "real" cello. If it matters to you, you find a way. You do what you can... or accept doing without.

You can do that or you can register at your local community College and take a music class in the instrument you want to learn. That comes out to be extremely cheap. Its perfect for a beginner until you feel that you are advance enough for a more one on one teaching experience.

Hello, thank you for your video, i wanted to let your viewers know…… that some community colleges have Strings classes in their music department!. I started piano classes last year, my classmates include a 76 year old woman and 80 year old man. 😊 One credit is 46 bucks, so a 3 credit class plus student fees is about $150.00 for 3 hour class, 16 week semester. If you’re not a little kid you probably don’t need a teacher hovering over you. Unfortunately, a cello is more expensive than finding a keyboard on offer up. Anyways, it’s another option for adults. ❤

I've loved cello for a very long time for all the reasons you listed. We never had an orchestra program at my school district (just a regular concert band). I'm glad I watched this video, it helped me feel a lot better about trying at age 30. :) I also had the same situation with guitar. Didn't get to do strings growing up and thought guitar would be a good alternative. I took lessons for a few months and decided I didn't really like guitar all that much.

I'm thinking about learning it too. I'm playing a little bit the guitar and I do love love the guitar, but I always wanted to play the cello too. However, since it is so expensive and I'm 28 now I was afraid of trying it out. But I thing after your beautiful motivational clip I will do this as well. Cello, guitar, harp and drums 🖤

Are you using the suzuki method? I am 34 years old and starting to learn with that method. I'm a little nervous because you learn by listening by ear instead of site reading or learning the notes first..can adults do this? We will see I guess. I know kids have a huge advantage with this and skeptical for adults
@averageaaron9127

Hello, congratulations on starting to learn! My teacher uses the Suzuki books in unison with some other books so I wouldn't say I'm purely learning with the Suzuki method, but I do use Suzuki as part of my learning and practice. So I did learn notes, but honestly it's all a process and just takes time. It's hard not to feel like things would be easier if you started younger, but I don't really believe that your capacity to learn has an expiration. Good luck, you got this!

THANK YOU for sharing this! I have always LOVED the cello, but growing up my parents couldn't afford such an expensive instrument. I took piano and violin from 3rd grade up until I was about 17, but they were chosen FOR me and basically forced upon me. Needless to say, I completely quit those and haven't picked either of those up since (I am now 31). My second favorite instrument has been a clarinet. When I was 19 I bought my own, super cheap/student Bb clarinet and paid for lessons at Music & Arts. I took lessons for about a year, but life (more adult responsibilities) stopped them and my heart wasn't in it enough to be passionate about making time for those lessons to continue. I'm now married, have a family of my own, and have truly been enjoying some hobbies of mine, and have rekindled my LOVE of the cello by searching up videos (like yours!) and listening to classical pieces starring the cello. I'm not in the position, currently, to just buy one of my own just yet, but I would absolutely love to find someplace near me to rent one from and at least begin lessons.

Well done to you. I have respect for your persistence and motivation. You're doing great and please keep going. The world definitely needs more cellists. I remember how I used to watch my left hand to place the notes accurately...even with stickers🤣🤣 but I'm sure by now you are relying more on your ear than watching your LH. Just remember that's it's a journey...YOUR journey at your pace. In the end we all make music for ourselves first. Keep it up!👏👏👏
