Thankyou so much for your helpful videos! and love your realism yet painterly style. I love the idea of plein air painting and can’t wait to get started (in Winter in cold part of Oz - I must be crazy!) just a question about process- why do artists often paint the ‘sky holes’ in the trees after the tree has been blocked out- it seems tricky. would it be easier to do a kind of wash beforehand and paint the tree over it? (Sorry for my ignorance!) cheers and thanks again!

Hi, Sam. I like the idea of massing the trees, in accordance with the tonal values. I do have a question, though, which has been bothering me for some time. On the cover of your Landscape Painting Blueprint there is a beautful painting of trees and bushes -- all in greens. Would you ever consider putting in spots of contrasting color such as red poppies or other flowers to add pop to the painting?

Thanks Sam ,all your paintings are great. What do you think of Water Mixable oils?
@SamuelEarpArtist14 күн бұрын
Thank you for watching. With regard to water mixable oils, it has been a long time since I have used them however I know artists that paint with water mixable oils to avoid using toxic mediums. I think it is fine to use them, just make sure they are artist grade oil paints.

👋Thank you, Sam, wonderful. I myself (as a mere hobby painter) would probably never have painted this area. But one should certainly open one's eyes a little more to be able to recognize the beauty of nature even in less attractive areas. The finished painting is very appealing to look at, thanks to your trained eye and artistry it has become a beautiful piece of art. Have a nice weekend💖

Thanks Sam. I usually tone my canvas. Will try leaving it white in my next painting. You use greens to perfection. I will try to limit my pallette too..
@SamuelEarpArtist14 күн бұрын
Thank you for the compliment, I appreciate it! And yes, painting on a white canvas is easier if you are struggling with tonal values and colour mixing.

Very helpful. After this exercise do we paint the landscape?
@SamuelEarpArtist15 күн бұрын
Yes, absolutely. You don’t need to do this value study exercise every time you do a painting, but it is worth doing a couple of times to help you understand tonal values. 😀
