Hey, Sam. Your method really speaks to me. I am confused, however, regarding when to use he oleo gel and when it is unnecessary. Do you use it only to mix thinner colours in the begining stages; or do you also use it for creating mixtures later on? I confess that I am still in the middle of the demo; but, I've been meaning to ask this question since I starting receiving your enlightening videos. Many thanks, CIB.

Hello, yes I use Oleogel throughout the painting. It helps to thin the paint and increase flow. I used less of it in the later stages of the painting. 😀

Hello, again. I would like to add to the question I asked before: I paint with REMBRANDTS artist quality paints straight out of the tube. It hasn't been necessary for me to use either solvents or mediiums. IS THERE SOMETHING WRONG WITH MY APPROACH? For the preliminary skeletal sketch I use a Tombow water-based pen which can be painted over later on -- or 'erased' with a damp tissue for correctins. In short: what am I missing? Is a medium really necessary? Your elucidations are greatly appreciated!! CIB.

I can't see any reason why not using mediums would be a bad thing however some oil paints don't spread that easily so using a bit of medium helps to thin the paint and improve the flow. I never use solvents with oil painting and lately I have been using Oleogel which is made from linseed oil and is non toxic. Whenever I get to the later stages of a painting I use far less medium.
