The best way to be anti-racist is not to think less of minorities. If systemic racism is so bad, why entertain any worldview that comes from it?

It's astounding how many orphans there are in popular stories, haha. I cannot get away from them. I have my theories as to why.

I bought the book as a present for my grandchild, but it is so wonderful, I had to read it before I gave it to him. He adores the novel, as do I.

Held is a brilliant work of poetry, literature & philosophy. Iain Mcgilchrist's work The Matter With Things is similarly brilliant. I hope that each one of you will read and appreciate each other's connection meeting in a mountain-top, sun-drenched meadow 🕊️♥️ Thank you.

I've just finished reading the book. It struck a chord with me, a frequent visitor to Japan. This interview with Asako-san, however, exceeded my expectations! Thank you for this beautiful but also very disturbing portrait of Japanese society.

Daniel Mason's gentle voice expounding upon the three books which inspired this novel is very soothing to listen to. I haven't read North Woods yet (!) but a friend recommended it yesterday and I'll read it soon. Very intrigued.

Boring and plodding beyond belief. Too bad - could have been interesting but the constant gay focus got in the way of serious issues related to the bi-racial character. Dave seems bland and constantly uninteresting and seems to have no idea what experimental theatre is. The conflict with Giles could have been developed in a way that could have become riveting. I don't think Hollinghurst knows anything about avant garde theatre and it shows.

I just read this book. It was such an emotional journey of a family that lived in this house. You live through family relationships that are torn apart and brought back together in a way you wouldn't expect at the end of the story. The relationship of the brother and sister are so heartfelt. ❤

Reading about grief in our dark times, I also remember Max Porter's words at a literature festival... Thank you, Max Porter! Let's no more say yes to... "Use our shipping lines! Use our BBC! Use our Foreign secretary! Use our existing colonial mindset! Use the industrial machinery of exploitation and distant atrocity that has underpinned our ideal of operations for 2000 years,- and also: Launder the money in London and we'll chuck in some Lion King tickets! It is as complex as how much does an MP cost?!! It is as complex as the death industry, the military industrial arm of white supremacy! The green leather benches of Whitehall, and the bought Lords, the donor who pays for apartheid here, there and anywhere,- because it's just good for business!" With the power of words and empathy, May this brilliant poetic lecture help kick start our frozen hearts, minds and collective humanity!

Its such a shame this brilliant story is totally ruined by the woke brigade. Saw an interview with the producer claiming that the only thing that wasn't accurate about the films portrayal of 1536 was the use of fake beaver skins instead of real ones. What about all the actors in it of African heritage - guards , lords etc? England in 1536 wasn't a diverse multicultural community. Im sure the woke brigade will condescendingly say my ignorance means I don't understand that anyone of any colour can play any part. So why not have a more diverse range actors ( transgender etc ) working in the fields in the film '10 years a slave' or represented amongst the tribesman in the film 'Zulu' ?

What a sublime writer Hilary Mantel was, and I was so saddened by the news of her death. So much great work that would have appeared, now silenced by her passing. Supreme prose stylist, without peer to my mind. I remain in awe of her massive talent, and this volume is a fitting end to a brilliant trilogy.
