Thanks for putting together the video! It would be awesome to have you interview someone who went through the Swiss public school system and then went back to the US. Especially interested in hearing how they coped with the language transition, and especially if they're about your and your brother's ages! We're planning a move to Zurich next year with our kids, aged 7 and 10, and currently planning on using the public schools.

Interesting commentary. We are actually Swiss and own a home in Valais but have lived in London for years: our 8-y.o. has spoken French from birth, has been in French schools since nursery (going into CE2/H5) and French is his preferred medium of communication. I found nothing on the Internet about people from Suisse Romande transferring to Suisse alémanique but perhaps it's the same sort of educational issues you describe: only that there has to be some advantage to already speak one of the national languages. Valais is supposed to be bilingual but of course it's not, except with officialdom in Sion and in German speaking towns.

No we didn't. My older brother had the choice to be held back by one year since he's technically 2 weeks younger than the official cut off (in the US you start school a little earlier). But he chose not to repeat a grade. Now he's the youngest kid in his class.
