Hey man, I've been watching your reviews of the Dread X Collections and I have two questions. One, Which is your favorite? I'm a HUGE fan of the series but I'd probably have to say mine is DXC3. Two. do you want another game? I know I sure do, but Dread XP isn't giving us one, :( if so what type of games would you want to see in a hypothetical sixth installment. I know I would want to see more retro hunting style games like Uktena64 & Squirrel stapler, but also seeing games that are more creative and do something different like Axis Mundi, Submission, & Outsiders. But what do YOU think. That's all, thanks for reading this comment. (if you see it LOL)
@CritHit2 күн бұрын
I really enjoyed the vibe of hunt. The overarching feeling for exploring the abandoned base was a great hub. (I do sort of want to see that story continued, as well). That said, a lot of what the dread xp games seemed to be, was a means of feeling out developers to pursue larger games with. If you look at all the recent games they're releasing, the majority of them are people who had the smaller entries in early dread xp titles. Also, Submission was great. I do want some more strategic horror, though. Like that one which required surviving the night was niche but fascinating. Really, though- I just want solid gameplay, and stories, so I'm not terribly picky.

When you were describing the guns that you could use, I immediately was thinking "I just use the pistol and upgrade that as far as I can". For the exact same reasons that you gave. I think game devs should watch a large chunk of the channel "extra credits", specifically on their game developer tips. Because I remember them explaining at one point, The concept of how "gamers will always choose the easiest solution that gets the job done..." A three-hit combo pressing the same button Will be used so much more than a complex combo which doesn't do anything extra like extra damage or something. (I'm paraphrasing, extra credits does such a better job with brevity)
@CritHit6 күн бұрын
Extra Credits is a bit hit and miss on some degrees of advice, but I do think you're right. As someone who did Quality assurance testing for games- quite a lot of them exist in a vacuum from people trying things out. (Or, shuffled to Early Access, which can be very hit and miss about feedback, since people might gripe about a game issue, but lack the expertise to provide indepth bug reports and notes so issues can be caught -if- they even bother to do more than leave a bad review, and mention it's broken.) Honestly, if this game had complex combos, I might have fiddled more, but like you mentioned, dabbling in some of the exceptions didn't really feel rewarding (Most charge attacks were lackluster at best). It didn't help that there was an incredible amount of overlap between the skillsets of its weapons. (It would have been pretty funny if they were more distinct, and you could have switched between them freely. Even with less weapons as a whole, that would have made the game better).

@CritHit9 күн бұрын
Elden ring doesn't exactly take mechanics that are -unique- to a developer, and carry them forward entirely to a different game. This way Madness Lies quite -literally- takes the Combat mechanics of Cosmic Star Heroine and transfers them over. And Cosmic Star heroine was the culmination of mechanics from their earlier titles in turn. Hence, the ensuing description of 'hey, if you liked this mechanics from the earlier game and strategizing around them, they're all here'.
@CritHit9 күн бұрын
In your case though, if the point was lost in translation, then I'd definitely recommend watching the full review, as well as checking in on Cosmic Star Heroine (possibly CSH first) - since that'd probably provide you the context you need. (And Cthulhu Saves Christmas).

Nice review! I can tell a lot of writing and editing work went into it since it's a pretty long and detailed one, really going into the depths of what mechanics are attractive in the game and what kinds of problems an interested player is going to run into if they try playing the game. I agree that the game has a good mix of great aesthetics and gameplay fundamentals, but still has several rough edges and polishing issues (such as the points touched on re: the medical facility vs. gym choices, events). There's definitely a lot of different deck archetypes that can work in this game, but some cards are definitely way more powerful than others to the point where they can trivialize otherwise dangerous fights, and other cards are anywhere from extremely hard to use to way more harmful than any benefit they give. I hope some of these mechanics and balancing issues get ironed out in either Knights in Tight Spaces or further spiritual successors by other devs. Still, if you want to play a game where you can perfectly calculate how to boost your combo to exactly 8, front kick to advance one critical square, dynamically move over to the boss, grab their head, and smash it into the wall to perfectly kill them, all animated in beautiful detail, this game can deliver on those multiple fronts. Minor correction on 11:12 : on Brutal mode you only instantly game over if you fail timed objectives, or if an ambassador or an informant dies. You're allowed to fail any other objectives, e.g. "push N enemies out of the board", "gain N combo" with no problems.
@CritHit21 күн бұрын
Yeah, this game really is one of the most stylish titles I've played in quite some time. And i'm right there with you, in wondering how Knights is going to change things up.

Thank you so much for playing and making a video! I'm really glad to see you enjoyed it. Can't remember time stamp, but yes "permanent" power-ups persist beyond a single run. 13:06 - 23:20 was traumatic to watch, for some reason, I guess you didn't realise that it was possible to remove them from inside the base, so you just were waiting for the RNG to line up perfectly to give you exactly what you needed. But you could have completed it at every single tower movement lol 27:34 - There's an achievement for it, so, good luck! 31:13 - :) 31:28 - Yup, you can actually see what it looks like if you watch the very end of the trailer on the store page 32:20 - You definitely could have completed that without the powerup lol 37:41 - That would be amazing! I'd love you to do a proper full review. 38:41 - lol - nice try. I actually don't think the time stop stops the bus, but it's a really good point. You can't use powerups after the round ends, and the timer goes away when you win so I guess it's not applicable? 39:31 - I don't think you realised but you came so close to accidentally dying here - you nearly put that nut on the lower tower right before they moved, and it would have overflowed. It just so happens that you can't place them while they're moving but I think I heard you press A, it just blocked it. A fraction of a second earlier and it would have been game over. 41:54 - Sweat rounds just mean the towers have a high density of incorrect placements, so you're gonna have to move a lot more of them around than usual 44:55 - When you did that I was trying to remember if I made the time stops stackable, or whether you had just wasted them all. Turns out they are stackable, the more you know! 49:11 - What exactly was the plan here...? lmao Regarding 'pale red', the colour descriptions are procedurally generated, I guess it was just over the criteria for 'brown', but you're right! 54:28 - You always go poke the question mark, it's funny how it gets you every time. You said you have not seen any ingame tips, but the ingame tips are all the red text boxes in with information in. If you're a seasoned player you can turn them off because they get in the way.

Just found this review and.. yeah, I bought and 100%ed the game 😂 It really is a game which somehow manages to immerse me despite just being a game where you type into a terminal 98% of the time. And I actually got really spooked sometimes (CCC and Naix, god damn it). I really enjoyed the soundtrack a lot, but the sound effects were DEAFENING in the tutorial (I think my ears are still ringing from that). Anyway, only complaint I have is how the story is put together, you have some random nodes with basically higher security levels than EnSec (NetEdu etc). Could've just made inviolability on that but I was really hoping that by the end of the game I could hack it somehow :) Cool vid, thanks for the awesome game recommendation.
@CritHit2 ай бұрын
Some of those extra nodes have very funny secrets in them, admittedly. Like the one that you can only really crack through by doing brief hacks. With you bouncing in and out every 10 seconds. Did you do the DLC?
@ramennoodle20852 ай бұрын
@@CritHit Yes, I have done the DLC. Loved the HOME soundtrack but my favourite is Sabotage (Final mission music). I actually "failed" the mission on my first try, as I basically panicked and had no idea what I had to do 😂 It took another playthrough and some thorough reading (and more panicking), but I got both endings and still played more. Got 18 hours clocked in and basically have done everything (All achievements, most secret nodes, although not all themes) Gameplay wise, I found the torrent injector really annoying at first, well, until I found out you can just ps and kill it :p (I didn't read the chat logs at first haha). Also, oh my god was it annoying bouncing from Pacific nodes (maybe I'm just bad at puzzle games but I live by not looking up anything religiously). Anyway, yeah, it really felt like an expansion, not just a cash grab like most dlcs are nowadays from AAA companies. Also, FTPSprint my beloved. p.s. You actually replied? Isn't this video made almost a decade ago :O p.p.s Thank you, honestly, for this review. Been going through some rough times on my end (my cat of 13 years died).
