I commute on a 32 inch unicycle and I can ride on the snow but the ice is scary and I've fallen hard enough to be done with that. However I'd like to fit one of my smaller unicycles with some of the best most metal spikes price doesn't even matter tires what would you recommend? I want to have good faith in the tires and that's worth any cost. I'd definitely only need them a few months of the year

Schwalbe make the best winter spiked tires. They have the marathon winter series for roads and the ice spiker for off road. Hopefully they have the size you need in either.

Oh for sure. I've seen many a KZbin video on the problem. But in over 10 years of owning several of their pumps I've never had it happen. So I'm curious is it just dumb luck or something else I'm specifically doing or not doing.

Helmet: What happened? I wasn't there. Elbows: Yeah, I wonder why. Dude, we got wrecked. Ground: Just bad luck! The trail’s epic! Head: Miss that rush... Legs: We’re tougher now. 1:03 that's exactly what I was thinking. I paid over $100 for ONE 96North studded tire, ONE damn tire for over $100 and I used it for about a week and took it off because as you said the roads got salted and the studs weren't needed. I used that studded tire on my front and that Continental Contact Plus tire on my rear but found it provided almost no traction in deep snow. I know it's summer now but I'm thinking ahead to next winter and two winters ago when we actually got snow it sucked, no snow last winter because of stupid El Nino. I was running 2.35 inch Schwalbe Smart Sam's and they just weren't very good in snow, especially on those days where I walked out of work and there was 6 inches of unplowed and unshoveled snow on the ground. This coming winter I'm just going with the gnarliest tread I can get and the widest tires I can fit on my bike. For the front wheel I already have a tire, it's a 27.5 x 2.8 inch Michelin WildAM tire made for soft/muddy terrain. Unfortunately, I can't go as wide on my rear so I'm probably going to go with the same Michelin tire but in 2.40 inches. And I'm running tubes, so I'll probably air those down to about 20psi.
@pauldotbike
@pauldotbike 2 ай бұрын
The advantage of a smaller tire in the winter vs a larger one is that it cuts through the snow instead of trying to ride on the snow. Unless you go all the way to a fat bike. So a knobby cyclecross is what you should probably try. Schwalbe has a new non-studded winter tire, Marathon 365, that looks like it would work in your use case very well.

For the 1sr time I bought a cheap pump from harbor freight the presta adapter unthereded the valve. When I screwed it on it was really tight I think that the oring in the adapter was of the wrong size it sealed well but was very tight going on and off. SO poor equipment design o manufacture can be too blame especially on cheap pumps

I've been using the Topeak Morph mini pumps for... 25 years? Been working great all that time. Basic difference would be they don't have the CO2 part added in. But yeah, having the hose for inflation on the trail makes things so much easier.

I've been thinking on this topic all weekend. And the only thing I can think of is the brand of tubeless valve. Due to the ubiquity of them at my LBS's, I use Much Off valves on all my bikes. This has never been a problem for me. Maybe it's the valves themselves that is the reason I have never found this as a problem?

Ahhh, memories of getting flats in front of work and getting Top Gear ruled out of the ride home. To toss my 2 cents in on what you've covered: - Portable electric pumps are heavy (or have the tiniest battery), very noisy, and struggle with >60psi. I tried a Xioami, it works but I used it maybe 3 or 4 times only, I don't recommend these at all. - I use a Lezyne Gauge Drive HP, since I need 60psi / 4bar for my road bike. Not quite high pressure but not high volume either. I love the gauge on the hose cause I have no feel for pressure, and I like the portability with the hose that fits inside the drive. The hose doubles as CO2 inflator. I use it mainly for top-ups when I'm out on my epics, not for inflating from zero. - The other issue people report with at least the portable Lezyne drive threaded chucks is sometimes the chuck is made with plastic, and can deform if you unthread it after inflation when its temperature is high. Easy solution: wait a few minutes for it to cool.

Question: Looking to buy a Mokwheel Basalt ST fat tire ebike, but want to get rid of the 26 x 4 OEM wide spaced knobby off road tires, as I will be mostly street, groomed trials, or dirt roads riding. Found some 26 x 3 beach bike tires with more street treads that should perform better. Can any/all 26 x 4 wheels accept tubeless tires as it seems from you great video?
@pauldotbike
@pauldotbike 5 ай бұрын
I looked up that bike. It looks like a very low end ebike. As such it's highly likely that the rims on the wheels supplied are not tubless ready. To be tuebless ready, they need to have a ridge on both sides of the rip for the bead to stay in. Espeically if sizing down from 4" to 3" you'll need that. I don't know which tires you found, but I recommend these for your usecase. veetireco.com/catalog-product/chicane/ They're 3.5" which would be a better fit.

They shouldn't be at the International Centre. They used to be on the Exhibition Grounds where the downtown cyclist crowd can get there ON THEIR BIKES - what a thought! Looked smaller and sparsely populated too. Some of those e-bikes looked more like motorcycles - you think if Harley-Davidson slapped a couple of pedals on their motorcycles that they could get in there?

I appreciate this video, but did you interact with any of the manufacturers or displays? There could have been some interesting info from the unknown brands, or even some insight as to why some people are not there anymore. You paid to go (or got tix somehow), and went all the way out and only stayed an hour. I probably would have done the same, but I wasn't aiming to make a video about it! Anyway, I agree it looks bad, though I was never that keen on the shows even in their heyday. It's also worth mentioning if you didn't that the Spring show is still at Exhibition, and is generally bigger and better attended.

Personally I am not in the market for an ebike. However, I do agree that there is a huge market for them and they deserve to be along side regular bikes at a show like this. The problem, and why I was dismissive, is that most of the ebike specific booths at the show were not selling the type of ebikes that an enthusiest would be interested in. Maybe someone looking for an inexpensive city/cargo bike. There were a handful of high end ebikes from reputable brands at some of the retailers and Yamaha was there. But the majority of what was there I wouldn't consider quality or interesting.
