If I may give an advice ... never run a gen totally unloaded. Even when starting-up, use an old incandescent bulb of about 40/60W Cool gen it is !! Thanks for showing.

Its using 5:14 40kva and it's a 1600Kva? That's like too little work for such a huge transformer, wasting too much inductive current at primary.

I’m surprised a switch like this was built in the 80’s, I thought mechanical switches and the requirement for human operators for long distance calls were phased out by then.
@lapub.
@lapub. 8 ай бұрын
They were still made at early 80's they were already "computerise" the switching matrix only where still mechanical. The switch evolution was mechanic "brain" and mechanic spatial "connexion matrix" electronic"brain" and mechanic spatial "connexion matrix" Computer "brain" and mechanic spatial "connexion matrix" Computer "brain" and analog electronic spatial "connexion matrix" Computer "brain" and digital "connexion matrix" The digital connexion matrix was designed in the early 70's since then the voice was digitized and send as packet just the same way it's done with Ethernet packets. but as you can imagine it cost a lot at the time; even if far more reliable (no more degradation in transmission) and huge multiplexing capability. So crossbars was still made even if already outdated they work well., just like you can still find DSL modem as you don't have fiber everywhere !

exactly. there were common program controlled analog switches in late 1960s (#1ESS) while "brute force motor operated mechanical" panel switches form 1930s were still in operation well into 1970s ... step-by-step COs like #1 or 355 invented in early 1900s were in operation into 2000s... EWSD, 1000 S12, DMS10, 100 from 1980s could be still found here and there today.... and human operators were absolutelly common even after 2000s its just matter of last decade that companies dont wnat you to speak with real people.... "if you want an operator to hang up on you press star now"

Gonna be an awesome day when we energize 3 of those transformers (very similar type 10KV to 400V 1250kva rated) at the new main transformer and power distribution building we are setting up for a hospital complex. State of the art Siemens Sivacon S8 with integrated power monitoring and metering on the low voltage side. Some feeds are rated up to 1000 amps and we paralleled multipe 4x300mm2 aluminium cables to make that possible. Each transformer is rated at around 1300 amps per phase. Big stuff. The building that houses everything is set up very differently that this installation here. Each transformer has its own separate cell, fireproofed from each other and the HV side switchgear needed to have its own room, also fireproofed aswell as the Sivacon S8 whose room is also fireproofed. A fire detection system is also in place and I am a bit surprised they didnt go for an automatic CO2 fire suppression system aswell. We have a couple installations where that was specified. I believe the need for a fire suppression system is dependent on the accessibility of the electrical rooms and how a fire would affect the building.

yes there are many ways how to waste money.... this instalation has 4 diesel gensets so the utility network and transforming station aint "primary source" for the consideration of reliability...

Amazing that this was still in use, I started in Telecoms in 2003 and learnt about Crossbar (theory not maintenance) and even then it was nearly 10 years since the last crossbar exchange was closed in England! (1994)

I can't believe this was installed in the 1980s. Where I live , in that time frame there would have been an SL1 fully digital system instead
@suriva

wait wait wait... there were few Nortel SL1s in 80s and literally tons of Crossbars and even Steps back then. and yes there was a fully digital UE installed in the same time period (with size of a fridge) but was not EMP proof...

yk harmonics.... the fundamental is 50 Hz... btw even harmonics superimpose to DC component and should not be there... tho the 3rd 150 Hz component may be significant cause neutral wire load...

I worked for GTE in the USA. Have to say that the outer frame panels are SUPERB! We didn't put up all those frame panels on ours and everything was directly accessible without removing anything. That said, the later computerized switching systems had enclosed frames, raised computer room floors, and air conditioning.

Thank you for your interest sir. Those are the little "cultural" diffrences.. basicly we had same switching systems like #1 and 355A step, #1 and #5 crossbar, crossbar and 4A tandems, even clones of all-relay switches like CX100, CX1000, later 1ESS/4ESS based topology like E10, DMS10/100, S12, ESWD in late 90s/early 00s up to softswitches and VoIP which I do not consider interesting anymore..

Assuming power factor =1 the power in Kw is 1.000 = 1 Mw, isn'it? In wich case the transformer has different power factor?
@suriva
@suriva 8 ай бұрын
non linear loads like SMPS have capacitive power factor, on the other hand motor drives are inductive.. nothing except a pure resistive load (classic light bulb) has power factor of 1... speaking of higher harmonics you also have to distingusih between Displacement Power Factor (1. hramonic only) and True Power Factor (all other harmonics) which aint the same in case of non linear loads like power electronics and saturated magnetic circuits....

SNCF class Z 20500 at 25 kilovolts have a 100 Hz humming (certains have a 50 one, the 20510) but i prefer the continuous 1.5 kV than the AC 25 kV one for these trainsets.

My phone's refresh rate cycles at 50.84 Hz :( Also that's good when you're using 25 fps. Also, the frame rate and the humming make a good sync, sound like a four cylinder engine to me.
