6:47 The expectation as the stall owner seemingly conjured up out of thin air the magic that was Candy floss by dint of nothing more glamorous than a pea stick. It was just about illegal for him to sell it to little chaps if it weren't a good one and a half times the size of your head.

Ahem! Portland Navy Days was an annual event at Portland Naval base, not Weymouth and Portland!

I was 10 at the time of this film and loved navy days. I lived at Tophill for many years and have wonderful memories of a gentler time.

First Pub I ever drunk in........was the Jolly Sailor in Portland, about October 1970; I was in the Royal Navy at the time, and 17 years old, serving on a Tribal Class Frigate......HMS Zulu.I was in Portland very recently, sad to see that the Jolly Sailor is now closed, and semi-derelict.........sign of the times I'm afraid!

Hi Have you any other film of Moonfleet at this period, my mom used to go there a great deal during the 50's and was just wondering if you had caught them on film.

Fabulous to see Weymouth of my childhood memories. I would have seen that Punch and Judy show and ridden on the donkeys. Visited the town recently and was delighted to see it's not changed too much. Thank you for sharing this film.

I have been watching a mole making a hill in France during the hottest day in 2019. Fascinating. I like that you are as fascinated as I am and not worried about killing it. They are lovely little creatures

I lived in Weymouth. I was 12 in 1959. I and spent summers on the beach next to the swings and roundabout in this video and got ice-cream from the same beach kiosk. I might have been one of the children on the beach. Wow, what a great film. Thanks.

The ship at 0:20 is either the St Julian or the St Patrick, not sure which but I travelled on both as a child in the 1950's.

Thank you for posting this film .. I stayed B&B at 145 Portland Rd Wyke Regis with Mrs Harris, every year from 1954 into the 1960's .. The trips on the Consul Paddle Steamer were magical, & thankfully you have footage of it here ….
