🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:31 📚 *Using students' own language is acceptable if it aids in producing or learning English.* 03:17 🔄 *Using the shared language can enhance English use and comprehension, countering the belief that English-only instruction is always more effective.* 05:08 🧠 *Thinking in English may not be necessary at lower proficiency levels; focusing on proceduralization of language use is more crucial.* 08:49 🌍 *Utilizing the native language in language learning can support cultural understanding, critical thinking, and other non-language-specific skills.* 10:12 💻 *Incorporating technology into language learning, including translation tools, requires acknowledging and integrating the use of students' native language.* 12:36 🎭 *Occasionally using the native language enhances efficiency in language instruction, particularly in explaining complex concepts and instructions.* 15:53 📋 *Establishing flexible rules and monitoring language usage in the classroom, along with employing techniques like the "credit system," can encourage appropriate language use.* 21:36 📝 *Language monitors can help students transition from L1 to English by noting down L1 usage and working together to translate it.* 25:30 📝 *Sandwiching, providing a translation in L1 followed by English, is a valuable technique to introduce new language effectively.* 34:07 📝 *"Own language moments" or L1 moments can be beneficial breaks during classes, especially for speaking activities, allowing students to regain focus.* 36:01 📝 *Task repetition, starting with an activity in L1 then repeating it in English, aids in content preparation and enhances English production.* 39:30 📝 *While grammar explanations in English are preferred, using L1 for grammar rules recall through teaching or explaining to peers can enhance memorization.* 41:50 📝 *Summarizing reading or listening texts in L1 can serve as an effective comprehension activity and aid language mediation skills.* 43:13 🧠 *Vocabulary learning is enhanced by bilingual tools, especially at initial learning stages, promoting memorization of high-frequency words.* 43:56 📚 *Flashcards, both traditional and digital like Quizlet, are effective for vocabulary memorization, particularly for lower-level learners.* 45:51 🔄 *Reverse translation is a beneficial activity where students translate a text from English to their own language, then back to English, promoting understanding and retention.* 46:03 🖥️ *Google Translate, while not perfect, is a valuable tool for individual word translation, pronunciation practice, and creating bilingual flashcards.* 51:11 🔄 *Reverse translation is a useful collaborative activity where students translate English text to their language, then back, aiding comprehension and skill development.* Made with HARPA AI

@byoteapodcast I have been to New York during summer vacation with my. All in all New York is of course a stunning City. But when you go theyre as a tourist, what travel platforms dont tell you is that New York is far away from perfect. When i got theyre I was shocked. The street of our hotel is not one of the busiest ones and as soon as you get away from the main streets, you get to experiense the bad side of New York to. Every 100 meters or so you see people laying on the Street. Someone of them are begging others just "accept" theyre faith. From day one I felt so unconfortable. I mean it cant be true that this is suppost to be normal. What shocked me even more is that homeless people dont make up the higher amount of people in the city and still nobody even cares. People just ignore them. Everybody is busy theyre. But the homeless people are even present on the biggest streets with probaly thousands of people walking past them every day. And still not much people care. All the people around me had no eye for them and I felt like i am the only one who even cares. I felt like I had to do something. Even small things can make a change. For example we homeless people near our street holding the door of a seven eleven shop. One time we gave one of them a bit. On another day we gave a street artist at time square money.OneAnother time in central Park. At one day we had a especially hearth breaking moment. we had been in an imbiss and they gave us three kiwis for free. Me and my parents werent hungry anymore and we desided to give them to a homeless person together with a spoon and a knife. We ended up giving it to a mother with a child who had a sign that asked for food. I was happy to see how much she liked. On one evening. I literally had a breakdown and I cried because I just wasnt able to hold it back anymore. I really felt alone in this situation because I felt like i am the only one who cares around. What world are we living in where this is suppost to be completely normal. If this is suppost to be the city where dreams come true then i dont wanna know how the situation is in other really big citys around the world. So if you read this comment and you life or go to New York or another big city then be human and do something for people in need. If the politicians dont do something then we have to stand up and help those people. If everybody does small things like this examples we can change a lot.

Sad to see the beauty of drama getting overpowered by the scanty world of OTT and ill crafted movies/ series. Drama is art, something most fail to understand.
