Discovered Mermaid about two years ago and really love it to create sequence diagram and other UML diagrams. The Mermaid syntax also is supported by other tools (Obsidian) and it is and easy way to have your markup documents enriched with diagrams. Still use Visio but Mermaid is sometimes the better choice.

Agree, for the simple stuff Mermaid is an absolute banger. I consider myself lucky to not have had to touch Visio the last year or so, apart from viewing diagrams created by others. But I also recently started using Excalidraw and have fallen in love with the aesthetic it provides. Recommend checking it out if you haven't already :)

On a general basis, App Attach would be the better way. But not all orgs are ready for that and they might have their own reasons for not going down the route of doing App Attach

Thanks for the content ! But if RDP is secured by a very, very strong password, wouldn't that make a real difference? For instance in my case my passwords are extremely complex because I have studied how to make complex password, which doesn't take much time by the way. I also access RDP with a non-guessable name account, far from Administrator, Admin, ITAdmin or the like , which again makes thing far harder for hacker as far as I know. Anyway, many thanks for your putting this out, really informative content !
@PetterTechАй бұрын
Thanks for watching! Just a password is not enough nowadays, no matter how complex it is. And there's more than one danger in exposing your server. An intruder can brute force their way in or they can acquire your login credentials by means of a keylogger, visually picking it up, breaking into a password manager and so on. Without MFA your account would then be compromised, but with MFA they still wouldn't get in. Another thing to keep in mind is that by exposing your server to public internet you're also opening up an attack surface and making it vulnerable to DDoS and other malicious events.

How is this different from modern wyse thin clients?

On paper, the main benefit would be management from Intune. I’m curious to see the performance, but at this point I would say that if your org currently has a large fleet of Wyse devices and you’re happy with them then there’s no rush to switch to the Link

@@PetterTech , I guess that's why this product is very confusing. You said it yourself: There isn't much to do with it in Intune. Thank you for this video. This could actually solve a problem we have when it comes to external access (which now comes from unknown clients) to our internal systems. Today we use AVD, but we do not like that they come from clients we know nothing about, and it would be too expensive to buy full clients for them. 349$ is more possible.

Hi Petter In Azure Virtual Desktop environment, I have 20 host pools with a total of 80 VMs, all running Windows 10. I want to upgrade them to Windows 11, but due to testing requirements and the need to avoid downtime, I cannot upgrade the existing live VMs in the host pools. Please suggest a plan to provide users with the new Windows 11 VDI environment. Here are two approaches I’ve considered: Creating a New Windows 11 Image Start by provisioning a new VM with a vanilla Windows 11 image. Install all the required applications on this VM and configure it as needed. Capture this VM to create a new image version. Deploy new Windows 11 VMs using this captured image. Create 19 new host pools and gradually assign the new Windows 11 VMs to these host pools, ensuring a seamless transition for users. Upgrading an Existing Windows 10 Image to Windows 11 Provision a new VM using the existing Windows 10 image version from the Azure Compute Gallery. Connect to this new VM via RDP and perform an in-place upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11. Once upgraded, capture this VM to create a new Windows 11 image version. Deploy new Windows 11 VMs from this image and assign them to newly created host pools, designed specifically for the Windows 11 environment. Would you recommend proceeding with one of these approaches or suggest any alternative strategies for the upgrade?

I can't speak for Microsoft, but I feel one good target would be orgs that has a lot of shared desks. But I'm curious as to what you mean by a half job. Not that I feel it is perfect, there's definitly room for improvement. Hi / Hej Petter, Thanks for the video, great work, I found it really valuable as I am now setting up this myself in a customer project 👌 I’d like to mention that including the allocatedAddressPrefixes property in your Bicep template can be omitted for scenarios where you simply need an IP range from the pool without specifying it in advance. Since IPAM is designed to handle IP allocations automatically, the pool ID and numberOfIpAddresses are sufficient, allowing IPAM to allocate an appropriate network dynamically (based on my testing). As long as the IP configuration on the network interface is of the dynamic type, it can theoretically change. It's not likely to, but it might. That's why a static config could be preferrable if you need to be sure the ip address never changes

does this have any relation with private dns zone when we create private endpoint? shall we create a new private dns zone for each endpoint ?

This can relate to private dns zones yes. My general recommendation would be to create a private dns zone for each type of private endpoint you use, for exampel private endpoints for storage accounts, and then link those to both the hub vnet and all vnets where that type is in use.

what's the difference between a region with 3 datacenter but not in an availability zone and datacenters in an availability zone?
@PetterTech3 ай бұрын
If a region does not have support for availability zones your deployments gets placed randomly across the datacenters within that region. Imagine that you deploy 3 virtual machines to a region that has 3 datacenters, if that region supports availability zones you get the option to deploy to specific availability zones. If you then place your 3 virtual machines in 3 separate availability zones you know that at least 2 of them will be available if a datacenter goes down. If that region does not support availability zones you have no idea as to which datacenter your virtual machines will be placed in. So in the event that a data center goes down you will either have all of your virtual machines available, none of them available, 2 available or 1 available. It's all up to chance

Curious if you've tried this with a VNet Gateway using P2S (OpenVPN using Entra for auth)? Does not work for me, I can see the query go out on a capture, but there's no response from the private resolver. If I set up a VM to forward requests to either Azure DNS or the private resolver, that works. Seems like Azure is blocking the response if it tries to go back out through the Gateway. I've had a ticket open for 125 days now and their support can't figure it out.
@PetterTech4 ай бұрын
I haven't tried it with P2S yet no. I'll have to add it to my list of things to try :)
@apexflash33863 ай бұрын
Hi, I couldn't get it to work on my P2S setup even though I had configured everything perfectly. Decided to move on to other parts of the networking, and I finally got it to work after setting up the firewall in the hub VNet. In the firewall config, I enabled dns application on policies and further in, I enabled DNS proxy. I then changed the DNS server address in my VPN XML config file to the private IP address of the firewall. Now it works perfectly the way it should and I can ping to VMs on my spokes using their FQDNs. It looks like the VPN client cannot access the inbound endpoint for some reason, but if you have another azure resource acting as a DNS proxy, it will work. Azure Firewall is very expensive, so it might be cheaper to set up a cheap VM on your hub VNet to act as an intermediary, but I didn't look into it further.

Thank you for this introduction, very helpful! I was wondering, I'm basically only looking into this to make our on premise non-domain joined Linux VM's be able to leverage Entra ID authentication. Only that and nothing more, well at least initially. We already use this with SSH sessions on our Azure Linux VM's and it works flawlessly. Is it possible to use Azure Arc to integrate our on prem Linux VM's in Azure and use Entra ID to authenticate SSH sessions like we already do with our Azure VM's? If yes, do you think that's a good use case for Azure Arc? Or is that overkill?
@PetterTech4 ай бұрын
You can and it's not overkill! At least not in my opinion. When your Linux VMs are Arc-enabled you can install an extension on them via Azure called "Entra ID based SSH login" (or something similar), that will enable the usage of Entra ID based authentication on them. I also don't think that kind of usage should trigger any costs either, so it's a great starting point :)
