Golden ball what a find can’t wait to go

When walking from the Minster Inn to the Maltings, don't go up Marygate and down Bootham go down Marygate and through the Museum gardens or along the side of the river, much quicker. Also the the Maltings is not a Black sheep pub it's a free house that always has Black sheep on tap as well as a good selection of other breweries beers. You also need to do about another half dozen tours of York as you have missed off so many great pubs. The Falcon, the Slipper, the Fox, the Volunteers, the Wellington the Black horse to name but a few. So I look forward to seeing further instalments of your informative videos of pubs. York pubs in particular.

That was a lot of walking! But all part of the fun of a pub crawl. The Phoenix is great, especially the garden when everything is in bloom. I actually love the York Tap though, in the station- huge range of beers plus it’s a great space

Just what I was looking for! Off to York tomorrow for the weekend. I've been to the Golden Ball and was on the list but the Swan and the Phoenix will be new. Shame York Brewery closed. Their brewery was always a treat. Just reading the comments and might have to try The Slip Inn too!

The Cosy Club was a furniture store called McDonalds, my mother still has the fold down table she bought in 82. Before that I believe it was a cinema, ABC maybe. Lived in and around York since 77. You went to few pubs I have never been to and will happily get a drink in them. Thanks for the vid.

I love the Golden Ball, I found it on a solo mini crawl some years ago. I seem to remember nice tiling around the bar? Anyway, great to see it still going - thanks for the video!

I too have the same problem on a drinking expedition to York....can only drink pints and too many pubs to try! Some hidden gems there!

My walk into town from my house includes Walmgate and Fossgate. On the outside of the Walmgate bar there's a great little pub called The Rook & Gaskell. Some good choices in there. BTW has anyone ever said you resemble Neil Young? 😊

Tetley's always tasted a bit like shoe polish to me. Though their "Imperial" was better. The short-lived Webster's 'Choice" was better still. I had quite a well off pal when I lived in Halifax in the 90s and we used to go to the Big 6 in his old Bentley Continental convertible and park it on the cobbles outside, then retrieve it, a little hungover, the next day. It's obviously being extremely well cared for these days so I shall pop in again.

I live in Sowerby Bridge, me and my Dad were the original mechanics in ;73 ( I was 13) when Shire Cruisers was formed by Mark Andrew. I have every photo of the re opening of the locks in S Bridge from day one dig to day opened.

Since I’ve never worked in a tavern or pub, I would be interested in knowing about how those vacuum (?) pans under the traditional ale taps work and what they do. Do they “recycle” the ale back out the pump?
