In case someone is crossing their fingers about D.R. due to coping and adapting to the seemingly slight impairments, take my case. I was having some impairment for a couple of years, but then suddenly within a few weeks I could barely drive or read. Besides low carb/exercise, the primary treatment is monthly shots in my eyes. Yes, shots in the eyes.

You only eat 2x meals a day that each consist of 100 grams of meat with added 35grams of fat? That's like 1130 calories per day, isn't that a bit low? 5:09

Justin, put the iLet on the charger when you are taking a shower. The charge lasts around 5 days so you shouldn't need a full charge. A shower is enough to get back to 100%.

Justin, I"m a 48 year type 1 and I think the iLet is a big step in the right direction. The pump can adjust your basals. That's huge. So far, I am very impressed with the iLet. It's easy (after the training period) and it works pretty well. More important, Beta Bionics is working on a pump that also has a glucose reservoir. The pump will be able to raise BG when it's low. This way, the algorythm can more aggressively dose with insulin to, hopefully, lessen post meal highs. Check out the interview videos by the iLet bosses. You can get the usual/higher/lower target numbers online. 110/120/130 or something like that.

I have been using the iLet for a couple months and my A1C is 6.8. I'm hoping for a bit better than that as the algorythm continues to learn my body and food intake. I wake up with BG between 110-120. Don't get the nightime highs and lows with it. You need to train the iLet. Keep your carb intakes similar for the first month per meal. Let the iLet learn what a usual meal carbs looks like. Stay in touch with your Beta Bionics adviser. Good luck guys!

What is A1C as I live in the UK and my blood test machine is calibrated differently to what you use in America. I use tests strips, and a pin prick on my finger, and usually my readings are in the high teens to low twenties. I failed my last diabetic retinopathy test because they could not photograph the backs of my eyes very clearly. So, now I am being referred for a "Slit Lamp Test" What does this involve, and what are they looking for?

I don't understand the last for rating of an insulin. I just started Novolin R and am on Metformin and Basal. I'm finding it works weill with carbs like Shredded Wheat but not sugar given the same grams. Also carbs mixed with fat like Sausage Egg Biscuits. I dose 6 units eat a SEB plus a 20 gram shredded wheat and see 100 at 2 hours. I start eating about 20 minutes after dosing. I don't know what it does 2 hours later though if it already handled 50 grams of carbs? Does it do anything or is insulin 'used' up be carbs? I'd like it to benefit both breakfast and lunch if possible but breakfast would be higher carbs and lunch lower then I'd dose again at dinner.

Need help please, newly diagnsoed at 33 🥹. I just read Dr Bernstein book. So sad to find Novolin R is not available in my country. Humulin R is available but contains protamine which he advices not to use. Is there other alternatives for regular insulin without protiamine? If my only options for bolus is Novarapid or Humalog, how do I use it to match the meal digestion timing wise and dosage calculation wise? Thanks 🙏🙏

I’d try to just use the background insulin and skip the bolus. As I understand it meat doesn’t require insulin. Before insulin was created the blood sugars were regulated by eating meat. Eat smaller meat meals.

I do not know if I am doing something incorrect or what. I eat about 10-15 grams of low glycemic carbs per meal and about 100 grams of protein. If I pre-bolus 1 unit with R-Insulin, I drop from about 85 to the low 60s or high 50's within 30 minutes and stay hypo until the the protein hits the blood about 3 hours after I eat.

I recently received my first CGM. I was shocked to see my blood glucose spike, as you describe with a high protein diet, while I was asleep, approximately 4 hours after dinner. I advised my health care provider who immediately gave me an R-Insulin prescription. I will be experimenting with this insulin starting tonight. This may be my key to finally get from a 5.4 A1/c to sub 5.0.

As a type 1 diabetic for over 50 years I can guarantee a type 1 can never shoot for a 5.0 A1C. Impossible. If you test your blood and monitor your food intake it's possible to get your level to 6.0. For me I'm happy with 6.8 or lower. Anything above 8.0...then you are really not controlling your diabetes at all. And if you are over 9.0 on a A1c....God help you. Time to take this disease seriously. You may not notice anything bad right now....but down the road you are going to be a regular at the hospital.

Attention people! Yes he is right. You can reverse Retinopathy! Here's how you do it......The Carnivore Diet! My wife a 50yr T1 diabetic with Retinopathy and with eye bleeds for 20 years has had about a 1000 laser zaps and a couple dozen eye shots that only made things Far, Far worse and the cause of one Retina detachment. She went on Keto a year and half ago then the Carnivore Diet 7 moths ago with No Carbs! And she has not had Any eye bleeds in over a year! Her A1C has went from mid 9s to 6.3...so far! For years the littlest amount of stress would cause a major eye bleed that would last for a week or longer, Now stress doesn't cause any eye bleeds. Will Carnivore fix any of the damage the butcher doctors caused with lazers and shots? Time will only tell but we hope so. Also you must know that we do not need any Carbs to survive but Big Food, Big Pharma and the Government want us to believe we do......WE DON'T! There is no such thing as an essential carb, only essential Proteins and Fats. Do your own research on the Carnivore Diet, look up Dr Richard Bernstein, Dr Ken Berry, Dr Shawn Baker. The body can heal itself with the proper human diet. Pass the word and Good luck to all!

Well done! I have a question. I'm type 1 diabetic. Sometimes I take slightly too much insulin for a steak and go hypo as it's hard to judge how much is needed. Then I take a few dextrose tablets to bring my sugar level back up. Do the sugar tablets ruin the effect of the otherwise carnivore diet for that day?

I'm doing keto carnivore and I've learned the fast acting needs to be delayed A LOT. I need to start my bolus (fast acting) 1-2 hours post meal. If I eat a meal with 40 grams of protein at 1 o'clock I typically will not see my sugar change till 2 - 2:30 and need to do .25 -.50 units for another 2-3 hours.

Good advice. Thank you, Justin. The night before last, my CGM kept going off...so I would take a glucose tablet each time and just as I was drifting off the sleep again, the CGM would go off again. Sometimes, the CGM gives inaccurate readings the first 24 hours and/or the last 24 hours. I was so tired, I just wanted to go to sleep and ignore it. Then when the CGM alert went off again, this time, I decided to use my old Glucose meter/test strips which told me my sugars were 33. I thought, "Whoa...I really AM low." When I sat up, it then hit me fast and hard with shakes, profuse sweat, and the room going black. It took every bit of brain power that I could muster up to take care of myself and was popping the glucose tablets on my night table. My sugars were apparently so low that my CGM was no longer giving me a number reading, but said the word, "LOW." Yes, it was scary, being by myself, feeling incoherent, until my sugars became in the 60's...then I felt better. PHEW! Although you mention to wait at least 1/2 hour before taking in any more sugars so as not to overdo it...which I did do that night...but when the low comes on fast and furiously like that, it can be very scary...as it kept going lower and lower according to my meter as I was popping down the glucose tablets...so I ended up overdoing it. When I went to bed that night, my sugars were 141, and did not expect to get low like that. But like you said, check your records and figure out WHY you became low. I exercised that day...but didn't expect to get extreme results like that. I'm grateful that the CGM was insistent and that I decided to confirm my sugar reading with my old meter & test strips rather than ignoring the CGM and going to sleep. Because of the sometime inaccurate CGM readings the first 24 hours or last 24 hours, I just thought that the CGM was "crying wolf." But this time it was correct and I believe it saved my life. Thank you for all your informative and very helpful videos, Justin. I've learned a lot from you. Thank you!

Is the T-slim pump what you are using currently? With a Dexcom? I'm on the Medtronic system. I was diagnosed with type TWO in 1998 but my Endocrinologist changed my diagnosis to type one several years ago. I might really be what some call a type 1.5 because my c-peptide was .5 twice. That means my body was still making insulin but not enough for good blood sugar control on pills only.
