it was normal to put a video with a funeral mass, etc., not just a picture, those who listen don't understand anything from the sounds they hear, they can't be there "living" dislike for the picture, not for the sounds heard song

My last name is Byler and my grandfather JN (Joseph Noah) was raised Amish. He left at 16 to pursue an education, and taught at Hesston College in the 1930s, where he met my grandmother Edna Ruth (Miller). My parents also met there, but I was raised Methodist. I’ve recently joined the Mennonites, and this singing resonates deep in my soul. With the name Byler it’s no wonder! Thanks for posting this.

Nothing like humble singing and the amish and Mennonites make all the people who are techno savy look so helpless because they have releid on machines to work for theit hands And computers to think for their brains . The earthly people should go back and start using what god have them and worship god and love their neighbors 😊

Some versions sing the fifth line with a part in the middle that goes up quite high. That is how it is sung here in Northern Indiana Amish community. Erv Troyer

Lebt Friedsam was my father's favorite Ausbund hymn. Andrew A Miller (1918-1992), sometimes called Mart Andy, sang mostly gospel and country during his adult life, and not these slow tunes. But for whatever reason he often mentioned this one. A good recording, thank you. This summer our Martin (1885-1950) and Martha (1895-1957) Miller relatives are having a reunion, so nice to revisit this music.

Are you sure this was Amish and not Stauffer Mennonite?
@nighthawk6350 Жыл бұрын
I cannot say for sure where it was recorded but I know it is indistinguishable from the way it was sung at church when I was a young Amish boy.

Even though I'm German I didn't understand a single word. But I noticed this is a very English way of pronouncing the German words so maybe that's why I didn't understand. I really like the melody though.

I wasn't raised technically Amish, I think my forefathers were Puritans.. very harsh strict when I was present, out of site, out of mind... I always held old fashioned morals, yet grew up in a snake pit... Our family has always been somewhat close, yet distant with them..I went to an Amish church a few times in recent years and this song stirred my soul and I was singing along before it was half over... it's in manifesto..this song must be sung in church!! You don't have to preach in dutch/German, only sing!
