I've seen this fire video on ShapPhoto's channel and it's cool to see it from different angles. Seeing the old school snorkel go to work is pretty amazing. This looked like one HELL of a big fire.

What even is devil night and why would people burn 800+ building in Detroit ?
@MichaelLovely-mr6ohАй бұрын
Devil's Night is the night before Halloween and in the city of Detroit, MI it was often marked by the burning of vacant or abandoned buildings. Typically the suspects for Devil's Night arson were teenagers aiming to cause some terror and fear; but also included people who were aiming to commit insurance fraud and everyday citizens who were sick and tired of the vacant or abandoned buildings bringing crime and drugs to their neighborhood and being an overall eyesore as Detroit is the symbol of urban blight. 1984 is typically regarded by many residents of Detroit to be the worst year for Devil's Night arson as that year the Detroit Fire Department responded to over eight-hundred calls. Truly nightmarish. On the KZbin channel for the Detroit Historical Society there is a public service announcement from 1991 that encouraged residents of Detroit to "Get mad, get involved, and stop Devil's Night arson!"

I'm not a FF so I don't know but has it ever been so cold out when on a fire call, that the water freezes while trying to put the fire out?
@jerryconner48516 ай бұрын
Flowing water will not freeze. But, water will freeze upon landing on the building, contents, vehicles etc. not actively burning. Hoses will freeze if the lines are not left to at least trickle water when not in use.

I saw coverage of this fire on the news. Apparently the homeowner was unaware of the fire until the firefighters came in to search the home. A neighbor called in the fire. Let's remember to check the batteries in our smoke detectors on a regular basis. The homeowner mentioned that they lost everything. He also mentioned that this wasn't the first fire that they experienced in their attic but by far the worst. Electrical issues are no joke. Prayerfully he had good insurance which can help to repair the home but insurance cannot replace photos, family keepsakes, etc so prayerfully some of those things can be salvaged. I've heard of family Bibles, photos, jewelry etc. being found after a fire completely clean.
