The Rover jet car inspired build is still alive and well and as far as I'm concerned the only reasonably good one out of the lot. I liked the idea of Impreza running gear in a mk2 Golf but they made it look hideous!

People are so on edge about cut N shuts, i.e. "two cars welded together", but they think nothing of riding in a stretch limo or funeral car that amounts to the same thing. As long as it's done properly it's fine, cars are welded together at the factory too...
@jamiewallace76852 күн бұрын
Cars are *_seam welded_* in the factory yes - but to components that are *designed* to be joined. There's a *massive* difference between that, and two *hugely* load bearing surfaces that are, simply, just two cut surfaces bollocked together. With the latter, there is absolutely *no* structural integrity, whatsoever. And while you raise a _(semi-)_ valid point regarding limousines/funeral vehicles, ANY of those companies have all come from a long line of Coach Builders/Craftsmen/Fabricators, who's skills **actually influence ** car manufacturers, and subsequently their design and production dynamics. One thing you can guarantee, is that such vehicles are built to the *highest* standards. And because Limousines/Funeral Vehicles/Hearses, by virtue of their modifications (effectively creating an entirely new vehicle), are still subject to NCAP Crash Testing, just like any other manufacturer.
2 күн бұрын
Absolutely not the same. Standards have to be adhered to abd inspections completed before specialist vehicles such as limos and hearses can be used on the road.

@GreenCanvasInteriorscape3 күн бұрын
Striking yet unattractive Unique yet not desirable Six wheels when four were fine Where do you store stuff? El Camino vibes without the utility. British custom high-end oddities of this era such as the spitfire tank engined giant hooded atrocity are pure cringe. Brunei's sultan was buying every AMG they could build yet Britain didn't think to go in that direction of cars that looked, handled and drove spectacularly. Hesketh motorcycles were the exception, and they've been fine tuned after 50 years and are now in production. The pictures at 7 minutes 20 seconds remind me of a lawn tractor with its body work off. Excellent documentation. A suggestion: put your motorcycle as a feature in the background as opposed to hidden away behind stuff.

@@shanethrelfall416 I dunno about engineering but if you wanted to see structural parts badly welded and riveted together and slathered with inches thick with filler it was a master class 😂
@Bop7324Күн бұрын
The concept was this: Two blokes, an aggressive cockney and a fiery Bangladeshi would meet a minor celebrity who gave them a brief to build a special car. What followed was an hour of arguing and shouting, sourcing a jalopy with 300,000 on the clock for £800 and a lot of messing about with angle grinders and body filler. Usually 30 seconds before the paint shop guy would arrive with his trailer, the car would be “finished” and then they’d argue about what colour to paint it. Car would be completed with again, seconds to spare. They’d take it to a test track where it would inevitably break down or leak every fluid from every connection. Eventually the day would come where the minor celebrity would collect the car and pretend to love it at the unveiling ceremony. That was most likely the last time the celebrity saw the car as I’m sure most of them wouldn’t want that shit on their driveway. Or at least the neighbours wouldn’t.
