Before he followed Bowie, along with a whole generation of singers, down the baritone path.

I am so grateful I grew up in an era of such incredible freedom. Freedom in every possible way you can imagine. Freedom of speech, freedom of expression and freedom to create art that was totally original. And the reason why it was such a great time of artistic creativity was because it was before capitalism got its greedy hands on it and turned it into a product to make a profit.
So beautiful ❤ At the funeral of my twin we played this song. She was also a big fan of David Sylvian en Ryuichi Sakamoto

An outstanding song, I think he had help with the lyrics from Bowie & musically from Sakamoto. I remember when Japan started & Sylvian tried to copy Bowie's voice but later found it worked better with more of a Ferry influence. They were average & his lyrics never had so much poignant depth.

Was this the main hall or the smaller upstairs section? I ask this as someone who has only been to Paradiso in the 2000s. I was a 7-year-old in Florida at the time this was recorded. ;)

No matter what Sylvian says, this is superior. We didn't want a re-vocal with extra bits added along with Ingrid Chavez, we wanted (and still want the original). Quite a selfish old man IMO. Japan wasn't just him...

I didn't even know of Japan at this point. It took a couple of years more before I bought Tin Drum, barely a teenager in the US. Who would have thought I'd have a twitter discussion recently about marimbas with Steve Jansen almost 40 years later. He shared some great links.
