Hello I am very new to pottery. I really love this technique. Is this still suitable for liquid even though there is unglazed clay inside?

Thank you for watching 😊. I replied long answer to other viewer’ question which is same with yours. so please read that. If you are asking suitably for the hygiene point of view the answer is up to you. Many potter use cracking glaze as feature specially in Japan. Mattcha tea bowl particularly, people enjoy the tea bowl changes the colour by usage. We call it “ The tea bowl grows up “ By the way inside of the pot is glazed. Only the overlap part is unglazed because I want to fire them together.

Useful video with clear instructions! But how could you close the hole at the bottle after drying out?
@AlchemyCeramic

Thank you for your question Linda😊 This tiny air vent hole was closed when I trim the bottle in leather hard stage. The trimming pressure is enough to close this hole.

Thank you for your lovely relaxed videos. I think I will use the decoration to indicate where the hole in the rim is. A bit like your pale blue shaker. Perhaps I will try and trim the bottom before I trim the lid catch so it is less fragile.

around 4:59 you use a stick to pull up the walls; whats the benefit of this vs pulling up with your hands? thank you!!
@AlchemyCeramic
@AlchemyCeramic 5 күн бұрын
Thank you for your question 😊. I want to keep the inside of the cylinder narrow. I can pull with both hands then squeeze the cylinder to slim is also alternative way but I want to make a clean smooth surface at the inside before I put my hand to make a spiral as I need even conflict all the way through. So I have to clean and compress the inside anyway. The another reason is speed. I am not specialized using Gyubera or Wooden bar, but production potters in Japan who use those tools are super fast for pulling 😳. I want to be like them one day!😉

the algorithm led me to you. and im so grateful! i especially benefit from you explaining why you do certain steps (compress to avoid cracks, trim at angle so both parts have enough clay). i never heard of the rings while trimming bottom to avoid the wavy bottom, and i definitely trimmed many wavy bottoms so ill give it a go. thank you!

@AlchemyCeramic

Thank you for your comment 😊. My Lavaflrck is from Potclay in Uk. For this project i mix small amounts of Lavafleck in the Buff clay. Using Lavafleck in its own gives many freckles as the result so I need to be careful the choice of the glazes. This product’s lava (basalt) gives rustic organic feel which I like.

@AlchemyCeramic
@AlchemyCeramic 10 күн бұрын
Thank you for your comment David😊. I’m just in the meddle of the process. If it works I will post it as video soon. There were few points I needed to adjust and these points are interesting. The liquid density is different so that is another question part. This is too small for the oil bottle so I need adjustments but if you are happy with the size paltry this , but make the channels bigger otherwise the oil doesn’t flow.

These are really beautiful. The ideas for variations will be fun to experiment with, and the facets will catch the glaze. I need to get a cheese slicer. I will try to throw a little thicker and use my normal wire and let you know how I get on. This week I made a one-piece jar with inset lid like in your snow on the moon glaze and I added a handle and spout to make my first teapot - thank you! :)

Thank you for your comment 😊. If you are going to use Sodium Silicate I suggest to put it on the surface before you open the cylinder. When your hand opens the vase from the inside Sodium silicate starts to crack ( need to dry it with heat gun first). Please try.

Thank you for your comment Alex😊. You have same problem! I know some potters set the wheel at standing position. It wasn’t practical for me. I can’t stand hours at the same position. So I set the wheel to the position up to I feel comfortable. Then I needed to adjust the throwing manner. I also practice 15 minutes stretch Yoga everyday. It definitely reduces my body pain. I highly recommend.

The last bit which you showed how sauce was poured definitely convinced me this non-drip bottle did the great job! Amazingly good piece! 👍Btw, I did couple of those shallowing cookie jars with lids. But the lids warped. They were not flat as they should be at bisque firing. I can only think that 1240 degrees had caused that or compression had not been done well during throwing stage...What do you think? Thank you
@AlchemyCeramic
@AlchemyCeramic 15 күн бұрын
Thank you for your comment 😊. This pot definitely works! I use by myself everyday. This make me so happy at the dining table. About shallow jar. Please try to make a lid thicker and foot ring thicker and taller. You can also add extra ring which is between the lid foot ring and centre. It will help to stop warping.

Thank you for another meditative video! Your comments about making the pots user-friendly by making a spiral design to catch noodles with chopsticks and also making the foot ring so that the pot is easy to pick up, etc. adds another dimension of thought to the construction of each pot. And I agree with others who loved your explanation and demonstration of the gyubera. I am wondering if you could make a detailed video showing the use of the gyubera from a top down view as well as the side view.

thank you for this! i too have been making covered sauce jars which have included a small spout on the delicate rim, something like yours. these didn't work out consistently as it's a challenge to make a spout with that delicacy when the clay is grogged and not very elastic. next, i went to a tiny thrown and attached spout, where a hole was included in the top with which one can regulate the liquid flow. yours are beautiful, simple and very functional. you remind me of what can be done in the throwing process that reduces trimming and finishing.
@AlchemyCeramic
