good stuff thanks. Im working on a 73 riviera. pistons with less DISH seem difficult to find, without spending $700.00, im sure i could put chevy parts and alter the crank but the cost! any ideas would be great?
@smokineaglesrodshop4 күн бұрын
unfortunately there are very few options out there. you can get 70s spec pistons for around 500 bucks from ta performance but if your gonna spend the cash you might as well get the flat tops for 700ish in my opinion. only other option would be to find used stuff but that's a big gamble. I'm planning on going to the flat tops eventually. I'll post the build on the channel. It won't be soon though, I got a lot of projects ahead of it currently.

Hey I’m curious if you would ever make another duck bill adapter like the one you built and sell it to me, I’m about to pick one of these up to do some aluminum wheels and would prefer to have the duckbill mod. I have a welder but my fab skills aren’t as good as yours. If so I would obviously pay for materials and your time and shipping. Thank you

I wouldn't recommend it for aluminum wheels. when it breaks the bead it is aggressive and puts a lot of force on the rim itself. With the duckbill mod it would do ok mounting and discounting as long as the center through hole on the rim is large enough to accommodate the center shaft of the tire machine. I've run into this a few times with newer wheels. the center hole is way too small. These machines work great on older steel wheels but are hit and miss on the newer stuff.

I have three 455 BBB engines, one I had rebuilt from the bottom end up professionally in Alberta, Canada, and it cost me about 10K in US funds. However, I did have them do some oil mods, and the builder insisted that I get forged rods and pistons for it, so I suppose I could throw some NO2 at it or whatever. Stock heads with a rebuild, and I put on the TA Performance timing cover with a built and blueprinted oil pump. Anyway, great motor, I love it, and it sounds amazing with magnaflow x-pipes at 2.5 inches per side. Only thing I would like to do to it is add headers, as I am still on stock manifolds. Anyway, cool breakdown and great parts choices. Cool to see the current numbers. Wish I lived in the US, because everything old Buick related costs three times as much here. Free healthcare, my ass! haha
@smokineaglesrodshop15 күн бұрын
Awesome build! I'd like to build a more radical 455 in the future. we will see how soon I can pull it off. I understand the manifold situation. 455 headers are way over priced. Thanks for watching!

zip tie?
@smokineaglesrodshop21 күн бұрын
I wouldn't trust my brake system to a Chinese zip tie. if it fails your rubber brake line could be rubbing on sharp metal edges of the bracket. The clip also holds the flat on the line in the bracket so that the fitting can be tightened. the ziptie would be subjected to all the tire and road debris in the wheel well. That's just my unprofessional opinion though. it would probably work fine especially if you use a half dozen 😆

@smokineaglesrodshop24 күн бұрын
the timing chain is driven by the crank and the distributor and oil pump run off the end of the camshaft. they keep it aligned and in place. Great question and thanks for watching!
@rockyjones470715 күн бұрын
@@smokineaglesrodshop I have one Im working on now, and the cam had a lot of forward and rearward movement, wasn’t sure but now that its apart whoever installed the last cam used longer cam gear bolts and it damaged the front of the block and wore into the button on the front timing cover. Its salvageable but had to have a new timing cover. Going back together with new parts this week. A very expensive mistake on someones part.

Hey is there a reason you went with the 2515 intake instead of the 2146 edelbrock intake. I’m looking to replace mine in my 72 Buick Riviera GS. Any insight will gladly help appreciate it in advance
@smokineaglesrodshopАй бұрын
Yep, the difference is the 2515 B4-B intake centers the carb over the engine giving it better and more efficient fuel delivery. It delivers the most performance for your money. the 2146 intake keeps the carb in the stock location so that the stock air cleaner on a 70s gs will still fit under the hood and function properly. downside is you give up some performance. I'm not sure how much performance is really gained or lost over it. Basically it comes down to if you want to run the stock air cleaner go with the 2146, if not get the B4-B and grab every once of performance you can for your money! Hope this helps Jason!

I actually bought my cam bearings from Amazon for 30 bucks. they are stock replacements. I only did that because I assumed I'd be tearing it apart agian soon since I beat on it pretty hard and I won't wear out stock replacements. if I was gonna do a street cruiser build I'd buy a better quality bearing set. make sense?

Sorry to see Carmen Electra will be down for a while, tough break man 😕 That 455 on the engine stand looks like a '73, could maybe be a 74', but I know 73' intake looks exactly like that with the EGR rails along each side of the valve covers. All of the 400-430-455 engines have the same stroke (3.90) and should be the same. From a post on v8buick "The 400, 430 and 455 cranks interchange...no design changes there from '67 - '76, all nodular iron." Well I hope it all works out man!

@brettkowalskiАй бұрын
I've installed transmission and transfer cases this way but I use ratchet straps. Transmission jack too unstable and gets in the way. Thirty years ago I thought of this in a certain circumstance when I didn't have a helper
@smokineaglesrodshopАй бұрын
I've done the trans jack before but the strap trick is the cheapest and works really well. especially after you've done it a half dozen times. it can be easier and faster. At the end of the day it's whatever gets the job done!
@smokineaglesrodshopАй бұрын
The thing I don't like about ratchet straps is how cumbersome it it to loosen and tighen them. doing a transmission or something really heavy the ratchet action is nice. Doing a relatively light but bulky tank, it's handy being able to loosen and tighten it one handed. Especially when your doing it by yourself. Both straps are alot better than a transmission jack!
