Is anyone surprised that from this comedy lunacy evolved the current TV shows starring Vic and Bob ... painting birds and fishing? Well, I never saw that coming.

The Verve were so underrated in the very beginning. A storm in heaven is a masterpiece and for them to make 3 records before people finally realised they were the real deal annoys me to this day. They were miles better than alot of bands that gained instant success. I just watched there 98 gig live in Wigan and it's one of the best gigs you could ever watch.

Just the fact he turns the pie around as if it were facing the wrong way had me in stitches, even something as small as that made it all the better. God bless these two gents, comedy hasn't been the same without them - true British double act royalty.

when i was in the Met, I was posted to Hatchards bookshop in Piccadilly, as security for this book signing of the book he had in his hand in TFI. I had just been a father to my son Luke and when he saw me yawning, he, in a very grand fashion asked why, and i told him that i had become a dad. He asked my for the name of my boy and i told him, and he instantly stopped the signing for a few minutes whilst we discussed the love of fathers for their sons. Nice bloke and my son still dines out on the tale.

I grew up watching these great comedy greats. They are irreplacable. Brilliant writing, delivery and timing. We will never see their likes again. The same applies to Les Dawson, Morcambe and Wise and Dick Emery.

The verve were always a much better band than Oasis in my opinion. So much more diverse and with a very unique sound with Ashcroft’s voice and McCabe’s unique guitar sounds.

that's right- their albums are exceptional but live they really do transform the experience. Watched them touring the Expecting to Fly and sorry to confess I haven't seen them since but they were amazing back then and I was particularly struck with how much stronger Mark's voice is live than it appears on record. Superb track.

Important comment: the PH of soil affecting plant growth is generally speaking a myth. For instance, blueberries are reputed to grow poorly in alkaline soils, and yet there are alkaline peat bogs with plenty of blueberries, because the availability of the nutrients in soil also changes depending on organic matter content. Joke destroyed, mission accomplished.
