Love your reviews! You had some great pens to pick from this month. I did like that first color for the summer. I love love Diamaine Astral. I'm still trying to like my Sailor PGS Drizzle in MF but I still find it scratchy even with Sailor Yamabudo. I wonder if I just need keep writing with it and I will eventually not notice it anymore.

That's an interresting line-up. Quick tip for the zoom nib: it is a very good one for reverse writing as well. I'd say it leans more on the EF side. You might like to have fun with your headers and write long form on the reverse side. The Sailor MS nib is frankly not my favourite one; I much prefer Platinum's MS nib. And I really like my MS nibs with 3 tines personally. But if the steeper writing angle doesn't bother you, a MS nib is very pleasant and feels different to other nibs. İt keeps the excitement going 😊 And the 'flex' nibs 😒😏.. well they usually are just bouncy at best. I came across some that were like nail!! The only modern pen that comes very close to true flex nibs is the Mag600. I personally prefer bouncy to flex, but every now and then it's fun to play with them as well Most vintage MB pens tend to be good writers. And I think they have this ease in writing; I mean the pen glides over the paper and there is a comfort level that makes me write a lot more than I intended everytime. Have fun with all your experimentation and let us your thoughts about them

I appreciate those size comparisons. Thank you for including that. The mixed metals would drive me insane but that is a sharp looking pen.

All of those dark pens with gold trim would blend together to me and i'd end up choosing one of those beautiful blue ones 100% of the time, i'd forget which ink was in which dark pen x.x. I can't wait to see which ones you enjoy writing with the most at the end of the month!

Interesting video, on my screen I saw the pattern of the pen, but the color looked black to me. I have a number of Waterman pens one from around 1900 and a few more modern. I also got my Marine Amber Carène from Endless Pens at a decent discount. It truly is an amazing writer of a pen. Another Waterman to maybe try if you get the chance is the Exception. That one is my most recent acquisition. It is a different pen, and might take you awhile to recognize the subtle shape of the barrel, but it is also an exceptional writing pen.

I have one of these and even my husband who is indifferent to my pens thinks the Carene in one good looking pen. The green ones are rarer. Depending on how much you paid for this pen, it might be worth it to get the gold nib.

I haven't handled a Waterman Carene myself, but I do have a Pilot Silvern that I absolutely adore! There is just something about that shape/style of pen. But yeah, that alignment would drive me crazy.

Alignment of the finial can be achieved by fiddling with two rings on the section.

my desk has an annoying wood grain when I write on loose sheets so I bought a shitajiki from JetPens to lay down underneath the page when I write. it has actually improved the performance of a lot of my pens.

You can adjust the removable ring on the section to make the nib/finial/clip align.

I laughed watching you convince yourself on the trim colour issue 😂.. it would have driven me crazy! Your nib unit was probably from another Carène. I've never seen a Waterman with mixed metals like that. I'm glad you stuck with it though and enjoyed it enough to get another one. Waterman pens are very underrated. I admit that the Carène aside there aren't many exciting ones around. And I would love to see more colour in the Carène line-up. My first Waterman was a simpler one that I don't remember the model name because I was in my last year of high school (long time ago). And then the only other Waterman I had until last year was my Waterman Edson that I still prefer over my Carène because it's girthier and I absolutely love its nib (similar to sheaffer inlaid nibs). I finally got a Carène last year. I found a good deal like you on the black one. I got a medium and I absolutely love the writing experience. I might even get the amber one at some point... we'll see

I had the pleasure of trying of Waterman Carene in Medium early last year. It was a juicy broad writer. It felt incredible. Figured I would get one eventually. Then I saw Doodlebud with a green one and that’s been on my wishlist. But I haven’t the courage to deal with e-bay as yet. 😂 How does the newer nib feel compared to the nib on the sea green, despite being a different nib size? Is it softer? Do you think that the silver nib was perhaps a replacement since it doesn’t match the pen’s trim?
@Volkmannx3 күн бұрын
Good for you! I'm going to do this with all my nibs that deserve a better body. By they way, size ratio of your pen and nib is still fine.

Great video. I did the same thing 3 months back and put my Sailor 21k nib into a custom pen from Tailored Pens. My challenge has always been that the length of a Sailor Pro Gear is too short for my hand. Now, I appreciate the sailor nib in a pen that fits my hand. It makes a big difference to the writing experience. Thank you for your helpful videos.

Oh, that is cool! I am putting one of the Jowo housings on my wish list! I did not like my Bock nib either until I got a cursive Italic + feedback grind from Annabelle. Now I love it! It is on the only pen I have bought that takes Bock. I have so many Jowo nibs that I think I will be sticking with pens that use Jowo. Don't want to have to buy a pen and a grind.
@lifeinspiresdesign4 күн бұрын
Good call. Jowo has the greatest potential of swappability in my collection, too - which is why I have the Jowo housing for the future LOL! I have so many nibs I'd want ground at the SF Pen Show this year that I'll have to remove some from the list. I hope it works out for you when you are ready to make the swap!

Your new Sailor nib may be smaller than the original Bock nib, but I still think it looks good. I recently got a Sailor Pro Gear with a medium-fine nib. It's my first 21k nib and I love it! Congratulations on the successful nib swap! 😀
@lifeinspiresdesign4 күн бұрын
Nice, I'm glad you're liking your new Sailor. I don't think I notice the size of the nib anymore because the experience is so good. And it probably seemed small initially because I was so accustomed to seeing the Bock nib on the pen. Thank you for watching!

Let keep in mind that Drew was answering a question a viewer asked HIM the question was What is the ideal amount of FPs that would be practical and allow for variation (ie: you can actually give attention to them all without strain and have a mix of (fine, med, ect nibs) He gave the viewer examples and said why they were good why he recommended them HE never said anything about we shouldn’t or can’t have more than 10 pens Drew has more than 40 that he actually owns and he was more than 40 yes he works around many pens that’s not the point the point is he merely answered a question and he threw no shame at anyone (ie. He spoken about his collection before on the podcast) My point is let’s make sure we see the whole picture and not a fragment Enjoy your pens everyone ❤

I enjoyed the month you did and this conclusion video is the most interesting. Now a lot of inks are on my buy-sample list 😂 The pink Benu and Kosumosu was the prettiest pairing! I failed to answer any of your questions. I did 30 inks and only really uploaded in discord and even that got overwhelming for me. I learned that if I commit to do something I will finish it, but I also learned that inking that many pens and limiting myself daily to one ink took some of the joy out of it for me. I also learned that I like some blue inks when I was positive I never would want to buy a blue. 😂 I would like to compare that Herbin Amber ink to Robert Oster Australis Oak. Sad that you’re saying it’s dry…it’s been on my sample wish list for a while.
