I prefer adding the existing bridge pickup to the tone control. They sound great when you can roll the highs.

Hi. I'm in the process of converting my Fender Player HSS Stratocaster (alder body, maple neck and ebony fingerboard) into something like a Superstrat for playing heavy riffs. I bought a Seymour Duncan Invader humbucker for the bridge, but I have a dilemma about the other two - whether to buy 2 Hot Rials or is it better to have one Hot Rials and one Cool Rials? And in which position will both of these pickups perform better? Greetings from Poland... 🤘

I am not familiar with cool rails, just make sure you choose the neck middle option when you buy it as it has lower output than the one they make for the bridge.

I've been looking for something like this because I'm also thinking on buying the 5150 EVH combo 40 w. I stil don't know what to do 😅 I play rock and heavy btw.
@GearUpGuitar
@GearUpGuitar Жыл бұрын
I haven't played the 40. It's a tough decision. If you don't already have a hot rod, then I would get the EVH 40, I'm assuming it's good but haven't played one. I have a 50 watt EVH 5150 stealth and love it. If you already have a HRD and want to save money then the pedal is a great option. I had the pedal and a HRD and I still bought the 5150 EVH stealth if that helps.

Thanks - Great concept! It may be my speakers but the 5150 sounded much more "tinny" without the Tube Screamer. And of course the Tube Screamer just sounded silky by itself - at least to my ears. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the 5150 pedal - but for blues I think the darker smoother tones work best overall. But again, Thank you - Great concept!

Thanks a lot. The other day, I got curious and unscrewed one of the pick-up height adjuster screws. This cleared up my confusion because when I tried to screw it back in, it wasn't staying in position. Thanks.

I actually use both the Tube Screamer, and the Sugar Drive on my pedal board. I like the Ibanez for hard rock situations (nice and dirty), and the MXR for richer, cleaner tones. Rare that I use both at the same time, but the MXR works great as a boost without a ton of noise when I do. Love them both.

Hot Rails seems a bit bloated in the lower mids and lacks top end bite. Maybe 500k pots would get it closer?

Cool piece of Fender history. See a lot of strat plus around but not so many of these. Top loader strat with a trem! Sure they will become collectible eventually.

I've always loved Hot Rails. Easily one of my favorite pickups ever. I remember trying one for the first time in 1986. I immediately went to my local shop with my strat and bought a Hot Rail and had it installed. I was thrilled with it. At the time I was thirteen and had just joined my first band. I wanted a bigger, heavier sound out of my strat. I loved the guitar but it wasn't powerful enough. The Hot Rail solved the problems. I played that guitar for years; wish I still had it. But I can buy another strat any time and load a Hot Rail in the bridge.

Also like that it doesn’t hide mistakes, a lot of distortion pedals add a mud that kinda takes away from what’s being played. Big fan of the tube screamer, personally. 🤘

Buy whatever amp you like. Start there. Then you can add this pedal if you want. It will sound good through anything. I wouldn’t buy a deluxe just to run this pedal.

This is WRONG. If you're using the existing pickups in the neck and middle, the black goes to GROUND and the green goes to the switch. Otherwise, position 4 will be out of phase.

Hey man! The gladiator channel boards link is broken, do you know where i can get them ?
@GearUpGuitar
@GearUpGuitar 2 жыл бұрын
The links work for me. That said these boards ended up not being the best choice for the string swings. The string swings are made for a 3" slat and Gladiator boards are not 3" so I had to screw mine in. Which was OK it provided tons of stability and I had 0 issues in 6 years. If you have a home depot or lowes nearby they sell this type of product in the Garage organization sections. Last time I checked home depot item was the Husky brand. Hope this helps.

If you’d tighten the tip on your soldering iron and hit it with a wire brush that solder would melt like butter in a couple seconds, no matter the wattage, I see the tip move every time to put it to the pot, and the cleaner it is the better. 🤔
