I’ve always loved how this song sticks out compared to everything else in the soundtrack! It really amps up the stakes, and makes this final battle feel super important! Along with using guitar in a way that no other song in the soundtrack does (pretty much everything else is more “natural” instruments, like flutes and violin), which helps emphasize just what a twisted force of evil Sulphur is and how important it is to defeat him. Phantom Brave is such an amazing game…!

I bought this game new and if I recall it came with a bonus soundtrack cd back in senior year of 2004. I had purchased my first mp3 player and put all of my favorite songs from what was popular, video game music and anime osts on their either ripped from my cds or downloaded on Kazaa. Not long after I then gave my mp3 player to my best friend when I joined the service with all of my songs on there. He used it until it stopped working and since then I’ve been on an over 10 year long journey trying to recreate that original mix. Some parts lost to time. This was one of them. Until this morning as I watched and listened to the new Nintendo Direct. As I was getting ready for work, I heard them say Phantom Brave and thought that sounded familiar. I looked and suddenly lost memories from almost 20 years ago came flooding back. I couldn’t remember the name of the song but I knew what it was. A faint echo of something, a piece buried and long forgotten by the sands of time. I haven’t heard this song in almost 2 decades. I have a piece of me back. This game has such a neat concept, but with one fatal flaw. If you didn't solve the puzzle before your party turned back into phantoms and disappeared, marina would get her butt handed to her, and you would lose the level. I wonder if the base concept would be fixed if they were to remake this game into a style of DISGAEA where you have unlimited turns to solve the level. 🤔
