30/06/24 - Inspired to visit this 'secret' venue. Stick float single maggot got me 3 to 4 oz roach, some very quick biting dace and, as per, a couple of donkey perch, biggest was over 2 1/2lb. What and absolute beast and ALL the fish were in pristene condition. Had a monster take me out into the center of the river but not much chance of stopping it on size 18 with 3.3lb hooklength. It stayed low in the water so poss a barbel (the 1 that got away story 😉). Tried bolo deep on a 17' Crackolyte - got setup working perfectly, 3g olivette etc. 2nd fish in and the rod lived upto it's nickname and failed just above the butt ferrule on the middle section. Gutted!! Waiting on manuf. and vendor for a decision. 😭

Hi Phillip, matches have taken a bit of a back seat in 2023, due to various other commitments, mostly work. Also trying to test equipment and improve the quality of the filming and sound which isn't easy and even harder in matches. All being well should be fishing a few matches in 2024. The matches can be a bit repetitive also, are you still interested in watching them even if the venues are the same etc?

Plus side - I'm inspired to have a go with tares having watched you catching 'dog' roach. Minus side - you cost me a fortune in kit I didn't have 💸💸💸 I'm a few miles further south of you and I used to catch em in the Soar. Corn hair rigged on a bomb over hemp. I was trying to catch the dustbin lids one time but the roach kept smashing the corn, leaving just the skins. Worked out in the end how to hook em. Wait for the rod to start tapping - then drop the rod back a split second and strike. Crafty buggers were hanging back picking the bits off that came loose - as I slackened they would take it and the hook with confidence. Had a walk on Victoria Embankment on Wednesday 25th afternoon in the lovely autumn sunshine. Trent was still 'b*****king through and was icy cold but you could see where it had been up to. The council lads were clearing up debris that had wrapped around the seats. I apologise for the rafts of American Pennywort coming down from the Soar. It must stretch from Enderby Leics. right to the Humber now?

Nice video. No varying depth? Do they not come up?
@nottsfishingkbtv4029 ай бұрын
Hi, With the clear water they generally stay low but can come up on warm days. I alter my depth according to reading bites. Missed bites or bumping can be a sign to alter the rig shallower. With trotting you can hold back the float and this brings the bait up,, lift, hold, pause and then drop can be deadly if they are moving between layers. Thanks for watching James, best wishes.
