it's a lot to take on. I did a five minute music video in film school. Front end to back end. Goaded into taking it on earlier, and by our directing prof (Dusan Makavejev). Dusan had said to me in our Directing 3 class: Are you one of these film school-students who only talk about doing something - or do you really intend to cast this in three weeks. "I really intend to cast/start in 3 weeks." But then there's the tech help, renting the equipment, nagging film school for more in my budget, then figuring out the staging/shooting/lighting. And that's just a five minute piece. Won our Producer's Award, but I should have not committed to such an early deadline. Thank God, though, because Dusan KNEW and knows how film school students are. They mostly talk too much.

I also read that Sylvester Stallone was offered the part and he politely declined because he has three daughters and he didn't want to play a killer of women. By the way I had an awesome time watching the double feature of Death Proof and Planet Terror opening night in Westwood California with the UCLA cheering student crowd. That's the way it's meant to be seen in a double feature with all the trailers. It's not meant to be split up into two movies

Quentin got a point here, in my eyes. Just look at Goerge Lukas, Ridley Scott, even Christopher Nolan with Tenet (yeah Oppenheimer was somehow okay and better) and Steven Spielberg. There are many more examples.

As Quentin is such a movie buff, a pure fan of the art of cinema, I think that he really needs to reconsider. With folks like Scorsese getting older, and with the complete dominance of studios like Disney, it’s actually legitimately important for our culture and for cinema that we keep our ‘real’ Auteur directors bringing proper movies out every few years. We got Nolan, Villenue, and a few others but there’s not many people like that anymore. It’s just random unknowns booked on marvel gigs due to their characteristics rather than their ability and it’s not good for cinema as an art and not good for the culture. The woman booked to make the next Star Wars film (that probably won’t happen) is a documentary director who’s genuinely never made a film. No one can claim with a straight face and honesty that she is the right choice for the next movie in a major, decades old franchise, but that’s the type of stuff that happens now, so guys like Tarantino need to keep in the game, and continuing to make a big statement by providing a proper cinema going experience. If not that, they it won’t be too long before the industry dies off completely and all we get are AI generated scripts that are fed as text prompts to GBT’s future siblings, who they sends its creation straight to streaming services upon completion, whilst all the cinemas are knocked down to built migrant hotels and the Westerm worlds culture becomes a distant memory that you get cancelled for reminiscing on I hope he finds a way to reconsider.
