He can end his career whenever he wants but his point doesn't apply to every director. I don't think that for example Kurosawa's later movies were worse than those that had made him famous. Ran for example is a masterpiece. Kubrick didn't loose any steam either. There were certainly more. Who knows maybe fifteen years later some idea for a movie will itch him so much that he will reconsider. If not, then not.
@thenorsepioneer73113 жыл бұрын
Their is a difference when the films are adapted. Most of Taratino's films have been original and that's harder to maintain because people become accustomed to your voice and style. Ran is based on King Lear and a lot of Kubricks later work was adapted also.

He compares directing to "sports", but the obvious fallacy is that you biologically peak at sports in your mid 30s or 40s (depending on the sport), whereas a director can make his best film at age 65. Joe Rogan is correct in that the fallen director just seems to be the one that gets complacent and makes fluff garbage for a cash grab. Plenty of directors have made great films at age 65. Nobody was talking about how Kubrick "used to be good" before he turned 50.

you're missing the fact, that sport takes a toll on your mental health as well. Being competitve at any level is not just about being able to physically - the mind is as important as the body in sports. And you're completely missing the fact that Tarantino wasn't talking about the ability to "perform", but about the performance being attractive to people. IE. basketball player is on top for 20 years, stops being something amazing for sports fans, director does great movies, new vibe and all, for 20 years - can still make good shit, but is no longer considered ground breaking. He openly says, he can still do good movies, but he just want's to retire while he's on top of his game, not because he doesn't have it anymore.

I don’t know if Tarantino will truly stop at 10 films. He may take a break after 10 and write books and do plays, from adapting some of his films to the stage and writing new and original plays, but I’ve got a feeling he would likely return to film whenever he’s writing something and it dawns on him it can’t really be a book or a play, it has to be a movie. A movie first and then perhaps either of those two later. He seems too much of a film lover to really hang it up after 10. And even if he did stop at 10, I would hate if he ended his career with another Kill Bill volume. It’s best to leave things where they are. No reason to continue a story that ended fine years ago. We can all think what happened to The Bride and her daughter later on if we want. We don’t need to actually see it unfold. His 10th film should be a new and original film that is unrelated to his previous films, other than being part of his universe he’s created.
