This is interesting through different scholarly lenses, but these documents are the product of years of oral tradition, language translations and all the related subjectivity. And final determination is sketchy at best. Drawing firm conclusions based on the uncertainties mentioned above seems like a waste of time.

the information presented was gathered by a algorithm designed in the early 2000's Tyndale House Cambridge decided to use the algorithm to evaluate the four Gospels and the Book of Acts. After evaluating the four Gospels and getting positive results they compared those results with the other gospels that were not included in Scripture. Pete, the speaker admits there will be some who disagree with the results. But the preponderance of the evidence give new evidence for the documents being written from a viewpoint of eyewitness accounts which is what the algorithm was designed to detect. thanks for expressing your thoughts

I think your reasoning is correct with Edward's teaching. I think it important to understand many disciples had incorrect understanding of things to come. Jesus did not write them off. He tried to educate them. Edward understood this and attempted to educate. He still accepted those who disagreed as Christian's because of the work Jesus did to Rescue mankind. .

Andrew Macintosh, who recently died (December, 2024), was my first Hebrew teacher at Cambridge in 1967 onwards. As you can tell from this lecture, he was very inspiring and had lots of humour. His biggest mistake was to reject Rowan Williams as an undergraduate student at St John’s college, Cambridge. So instead he was accepted at my college, Christ’s college, Cambridge. However, when Rowan Williams became Archbishop of Canterbury Andrew made amends by sending him a postcard with the message, ‘The stone which the builders rejected has become the head of the corner’! I wasn't a successful postgrad and left sans completion, but h e pointed out that the coll. was there to support true religion before learning and so I shouldn't beat myself up about it. This is an absolutely wonderful lecture, but it's just that the particulars of my situation anger me at the moment. (Leviticus 19:15) You must not curse the deaf or place a stumbling block before the blind, but you shall fear your God. I am the LORD. 15 You must not pervert justice; you must not show partiality to the poor or favoritism to the rich; you are to judge your neighbor fairly. 16 You must not go about spreading slander among your people. You must not endanger the life of your neighbor. I am the LORD. (Revelation 10:1) They have perverted Justice though. Bruh justification is my favorite. Its my only hope. I think sanctification is what Jesus is doing.
@fleetwd1
@fleetwd1 17 күн бұрын
What Jesus has done sanctifies us in the biblical sense of the word meaning to set us apart. Justification frees us from the Law of Sin and Death. But it also frees us to enjoy the law of liberty. Paul opposes using the law as a method to obtain righteousness for the flesh but he never opposes the laws use of being a standard to measure righteousness by the Spirit. It is important to equate the law with Scripture itself because law, or Torah, means God's instruction. All Scripture is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correction, and training in righteousness. 2 Tim 3:15 Personal sanctification is putting justification in action as Geoffrey Paxton was known to say. Justification is the mainspring for Sanctification as Bob Brinsmead taught in the red issue on Sanctification in 1975. Paul wrote the foundation believers were upon was the gospel of justification which he taught. Each person builds upon the foundation some with precious metals, some with precious stones, some with wood, some with stubble and straw. This illustration is about personal sanctification. Paul says it will all be tried with fire on the last day. Some of what was used to build will endure, others will be burnt up. But all who are on the foundation of God's work provided by Christ will be saved. So Justification is more essential. However Paul taught a judgment according to works to go along with justification by faith. What is revealed in the judgment is whether Justification by Faith is genuine or a mere profession to excuse sin. We who are justified should demonstrate a changed heart toward God's instruction. When we do we shall delight in God's law as did David.
@343forwarduntodawn
@343forwarduntodawn 4 күн бұрын
@fleetwd1 that makes sense I think. Can I say that sanctification is Christ being made manifest in us as we behold who he is to us and rest upon him? I guess sanctification means to set apart kinda. So every believer is set apart in a way where God is now bringing them to an end of trusting in themselves and is revealing Christ to them more and more maybe? And then good works they do is Christ being worked into them more and more as they feed upon him? And so the precious stones stuff is what comes from that, where as straw and stubble is what's comes from flesh and men's ambitions. Self righteousness vain imaginations and the like. Which just leads to more sin I guess. Idk I guess what I'm come to think is the Christian life is all about being taken up with Christ as a person ministering himself to us, and the fruits of spirit are what flow from that. Cuz if i I'm just focusing on being a better person, and seeing that as my new purpose it just leads to more futility and sin. Im not tryna critique anything u said in anyway, it's just im tryna see what it all means. Ha ok I gotta read what u said again.

@@343forwarduntodawn yes you are getting it. Think of faith righteousness and works of faith illustrated by the creation account. Man was not created on Day 1 to work 6 days and then find rest. He was created on Day 6. His first full day was a day of rest. Rest represents faith in God's finished work. Once we find rest in Him, we are the able to do works that faith enables. They are not works of flesh. Since works of the flesh do not proceed from the rest of faith. Those works are attempts of being justified by lowering the requirements to something we can accomplish on our own this is why they do not proceed by the Spirit but by the flesh. blessings to you

Brilliant, captivating, entertaining and most significantly, truth affirming. I cannot help but add that these findings of the pagan origin of the soul's immortality and its necessary consequences of 'heavenly bliss' or 'hellish blisters' after death....which devalues the beautiful resurrection hope.... were long exposed by CT Russell and the Bible students in the 19th century. The movement (JWs) that sprang from their findings have published these truths for over a hundred years and today in more than 1000 languages. Ed Fudge could have saved a lot of time and effort . Still his journey was no doubt satisfying. Rev.21:⁸ though clashes with his conclusion about hellfire not being a "salvation issue"! Did Fudge say this to curry favour with some in his fellowship who prefer Hell (as a doctrine not a destination) might take issue? The false teaching of conscious "Eternal torment" blasphemes the holy character and name of a loving God and that of his compassionate Son. It is a monstrous LIE .... and we know who the father of lies is. John 8:⁴⁴ All unrepentant liars and any who perpetuate such lies are earmarked for that very same "lake of fire!"... the second death. Rev.21:8; 22:15

Eternity does not mean eternity in the bible, it means age. Fire in the bible is is not literal for the most part it is spiritual, like fiery trials, furnace of fire. ETC is a doctrine of demons. Lake of fire will be like living another life on earth and missing out on heaven. Can you imagine the agony the Pharisees and Sadducees types will go through when they see themselves thrust out of the kingdom of God while the harlots entered in before them. These are the people with other sinners will be outside the new Jerusalem, that cannot enter in and are weeping and nashing their teeth realizing what they have misses out on.

What was Dr Ford's personal view of eschatological things before he passed away? Like im wondering based on his ideas presented in the playlist here, what his thoughts were about the state of things more recently. Something i find concerning is how religious nationalism is building up steam in the world right now. Take agenda 2025 for example. Im very sussed out by religious movements that aren't solely driven by the gospel. I know sda policy changed on the Roman Catholic church, but I still have a healthy fear and distrust of their sytem. The Vatican was the worlds first intelligence agency with complete disregard for the sovereignty of nations, let alone morals or ethics. And hiding behind the veil of religion and piety that had no gospel. Im not broad stroking all Catholics, but their religious and political system was a masterpiece of church mixed with politics and intrigue. I guess I feel every modern denomination has something of that spirit tho. I find it so depressing.

People should stick to The Holy Scriptures. I don’t think there are any more true prophets since The Book of Revelation, and all the Books of the Bible were completed since before the end of One Hundred AD. A true prophet is someone who gets visions from God. Therefore, there are no errors: Because, God is Sovereign and He is Perfect. The only problem that would exist are only translation errors or anti Christ people who are trying to frustrate The Gospel. The key word is TRYING. But, no one will never be able to do that.
@fleetwd1
@fleetwd1 2 ай бұрын
what you are saying is true of biblical prophets. however the gift of prophecy is said to be active until the coming. As Scripture affirms, "...your sons and daughters will prophecy and old men will dream dreams...." Joel 2:28 Now having said this, the bible also affirms the spiritual gift of prophecy is not identical with that of a biblical prophet. These who have the gift are not given inerrancy as are biblical prophets. Revelation says "the testimony of Jesus is Spirt of Prophecy." Rev 19:;10 When normal people give testimony to Jesus and the Holy Spirit enables this communication it is the spiritual gift of prophecy. This will continue until the coming of Christ gratefully because it is necessary to spread the gospel which is about what Jesus accomplished for all mankind. The Spirit of Prophecy enables faith in those who are receptive to the gospel .

I'm planning on moving out this fall, and staying with a friend. We both kinda see the Sabbath as fulfilled in Christ, and so whether u rest on Saturday or Sunday wasn't a big issue to us, but now I'm having second thoughts. Saturday would be very difficult, because it would interfere with my job, and i would probably get scoffed at. And my buddy who I'm moving in with, would probably think I've fallen into some legalistic bondage. And I can't help but feel that maybe it is legalistic bondage to suddenly force a change like that in my life. Idk. Would it be something I can gradually move into? I mean even this coming week I'm gonna have to work on Saturday for my parents, and making and issue out that would blow up in my face really bad. @@343forwarduntodawn Edward and I spoke about this several years before he passed. his concern was not identical to yours because he had no work obligations but he was concerned about the family and friends who He went to church with on Sunday. First I had asked him will there be anyone in the kingdom who has not come to rest in Christ's finished work by faith. He agreed that there would not be any who had not come to rest in Christ in that way. I said that is the reality to which the Sabbath points. you can have knowledge of the right day and still fail to enter God's rest as is brought out in Hebrews 3 and 4. The only way to enter is by faith. without faith it is impossible to please Him. (God) But now is continuing to go to church with family and friends on Sunday forbidden? no. Edward said he felt convicted enough to begin holding Sabbath sacred for himself. I agreed. it is always important not to do anything legalistically. Legalism is wrong because it attempts to bring obedience that fails to meet the laws demand. We are complete in Christ accepted in the beloved and there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus whatever we end up doing it needs to be motivated out of love rather than out of obligation. Let God guide you through His Spirit. If He encourages you to take a stand He will provide the way. but be certain in your own mind that what you do is not out of obligation but out of love and gratitude for what Christ has accomplished for you. our faith should never be in our accomplishment but in His accomplishments. The Sabbath can be a blessing. It is identical with the blessing you receive when faith in Christ brings yo to rest in Him. When you hear aa good gospel sermon and you are at peace knowing your acceptance is secure. Both bring you into the presence of God through His Spirit which creates faith in Him. That is what Hebrews 3 & 4 is about it does mention the 7th day but the key is entering God's rest by faith. legalism is trying to enter by the flesh. I hope this helps in your search on how to go about the transition to a new way of thinking. The Sabbath can be a day of rehearsing the gospel. We are to remember it like we are ask to remember the Lord's supper. Those who do it legalistically never quite enter by faith. faith is the substance of things hoped for the evidence of things unseen. It is meant to be a blessing to man just as the gospel is.

The best book that captured the understanding that i was led to was written by a Jew. Abraham Hershel the Sabbath. the key idea was we enter by invitation into God's presence. Hmmm, where else did Jesus mention those words? ““But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation is near.” ‭‭Luke‬ ‭21‬:‭20‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ Jesus in Matthew 24 gave signs about the end of time and the destruction of Jerusalem. The Romans would always conquered under the sign of their pagan deity.

I really believe most if not all of Mr Fudge's doctrine here, but the only verse i still don't quite understand about this is Matt 25: 46. Can anyone shed some light of truth about what this verse means when eternal punishment is used right there in the same verse as eternal life in heaven? It sure sounds like ETC! Can anyone compare it to other verses that support eventual annihilation, which to me is a far more just punishment.

According to Scripture the punishment is death, destruction or something similar. Therefore it is eternal death, destruction or something similar. The first death which everyone with few exceptions experience results in Resurrection "some to eternal life and some to shame and eternal contempt." Dan 12:2 see also Acts 24:15; John 5:29. eternal judgment for the wicked which Jesus refers to in John 5:29 results in the second death which has no resurrection promised. therefore it is eternal punishment. People holding to ECT mistakenly read eternal punishment as an ongoing punishing. but that is misunderstanding the text. Scripture teaches eternal punishment is not eternal punishing. I hope this helps you understand the difference.

Thanks so much for sharing this presentation. I was a student at Lipscomb in the early 1980s and was asking many of the same questions that Edward Fudge answers so thoroughly. I’m so glad to know that Lipscomb was willing to break outside the mold of the traditionalist view on many topics. I was also influenced by the writing of and personal conversations with Rubel Shelley. I have changed many of my understandings over the years and now work in full time ministry in an interdenominational addiction recovery program in which I have the opportunity to have great conversations with men and women searching for the life God has for them. I would not be where I am today without good Godly men such as Edward Fudge who has been an encouragement to me on my journey.

Evidences? I thought 'evidence' was a collective noun and therefore remained singular.

Edward did not affirm, or deny Soul Sleep. To him the biblical evidence was not as strong for that issue than it was for Conditional Immortality which is what he is here teaching. Others who teach it may hold to Soul Sleep but like I said he does not affirm it or deny it. Jokingly he said three days a week I believe it and three days a week I do not, and one day a week I rest from the issue.
