My husband is the 3rd generation on our dairy. 55 years ago, his grandparents started milking a handful of cows, then grew to 80, and now we are milking 230. We milk twice a day, 4a & 4p.

you ever give heifers their bangs vaccine and tag.
@mrsmilkman094 күн бұрын
no, because our heifers never leave the farm. Any heifers we buy out of state do have them.

we have been putting bands on horns for years. now we just use polled bulls.
@mrsmilkman095 күн бұрын
@DAVIDZ-vk4yv I guess we've been living under a rock since we're just discovering banding horns. We definitely prefer polled bulls, but when we buy heifers, we never know what they're bred to.

Milked for a number of years for farmers n Iowa. Might want to look into getting a clip made for your kick rail to hold the hose, wouldn’t have to mess around with the wire then. Simple clip that slides on the kick rail with 2 vertical pieces that are just wide enough to hold the hose. The vertical pieces are like an inch tall so don’t get in the way of the milking

Highland dairy mixes your milk with everybody else's and ruins the farm fresh taste, since 1978 nobody has got real milk without cream it's just not farm fresh 😢😊

Wonderful and informative video Ms. Jamie! Thank you (and Lance) for the "patience" is taking us through the process. Selfishly, this allowed me to show my wife through a great visual, and explanation by you and Lance what an operation is about. Please convey to Lance that it's greatly appreciated to how you all explain things. Thank you for all of your hard work in feeding America! We genuinely appreciate and respect you. Best and blessings to your family!

I heard no mention of the milk production of each cow. Is there a reader somewhere that senses a tag on the ear to identify the cow? Is that information connected to the number of pounds of milk that have been produced and go through the milkers? I presume that there is some mechanism within the milker that is able to weigh the amount of milk that each cow is producing. My question is how to connect that quantity to a particular cow.
@mrsmilkman0911 күн бұрын
great question! Our barn isn't set up with a system to weigh each individual cows production. the system we really want will do all of that with an rfd tag in the cows ear, but right now, it's just too pricey but definitely something we are looking into.

❤I'm sorry, I have so many questions. How does it stay so clean when their being milk. None of the ladies are pooping or peeing on you ? I need a tour n education.
@mrsmilkman0911 күн бұрын
@yvonnechristmas2616 no worries at all! So, just under their bottoms is basically a bed pan that we call a "butt plate" that catches most of their pee and poop while they're being milked to help keep it away from the milkers.

❤ Wow. Amazing work. I see one of the ladies had a limp ?
