@@ValleyProductions_LLC Nah, it’s a digital file 👌🏻 Check your settings in the Ninja V as well and you can add the LUT onto the Ninja for monitoring and toggle on and off.

Great vid! I've had an R5 since day one. Just learning daVinci Resolve... I'm still figuring out how to get raw clips viewable and wherever they need to be for quick editing.... I have been shooting 4k non raw at high shutter speeds for small birds in flight sharp shots. Being able to get higher rez raw files from the raw vids will be great. I'm sometimes a slow learner.

The 18% grey card has a similarity to skin tones which is why it’s superior to dial in white balance for shooting subjects.

So when you shoot with the 5D Mark IV with Canon Log all you do is use the Lumetri Color panel to take advantage of Canon Log? I assumed it was like working with Red footage or Blackmagic where they have their own settings panel.

Hi Jeff, it’s not the same as RAW (which will open up an additional settings panel) on the red and blackmagics . It’s a little bit like using a colour profile that is a bit less saturated and has more detail in the shadows. It still bakes in ISO and white balance unlike RAW footage. There are limitations but I believe it beats out shooting in all other picture profiles.

Love the way your brain works. I am the same. Muscle memory and intuition takes all the panic out of shooting and turns it back into a joy. The R6 with its total lack of consistency drove me out of my mind. I sold it. I'm back to the 5D II and got a dedicated cinema camera for moving images. Cos the cinema camera has all the stuff where it should be too.

Unfortunately I think it may only go up to 30fps in 4K. To test this, set the camera to 1080p and see if the video assist will then let you choose 60fps recording.

I switched from the Sony A7C. R8 is a true Hybrid. 4K60 With full sensor readout and 4.2.2 10bit at this price point is just crazy.

Yeah, I use resolve to transcode it by dumping in a timeline and exporting individual clips to ProRes

Nah just ProRes 422 and LT if I need smaller files. I use my own LUT I developed for clog 3 to get a very good base grade. Available on my website if you need something that just works out of the gate.

@@milanjaniYes if you need to keep the same quality. I don't see a significant reduction in quality going to ProRes. I do see some quality loss in fine detail and focussing around edges going to ProRes LT but some clients ask for smaller files and still want me to shoot in LOG 3 so the colour process and 10 bit 422 is still retained for their editors. If you need the smooth sailing of H.264 editing on a non apple M chipped machine then ProRes HQ is a good option to retain image 'fidelity.' - www.apple.com/final-cut-pro/docs/Apple_ProRes_White_Paper.pdf

Great video. Just this one clarity, Canon Log doesn't make the camera to shoot 12 bits. It just helps with increasing dynamic range (Stops)

In my opinion they aren’t good for reference/mixing. They are great for listening but have a distinct signature to them in the bass.

@HmmInteresting478 Nah , the sound quality and reproduction to me is pretty decent and they get good reviews. For me they aren’t comfortable enough for long editing sessions as they are an on ear headphone. I prefer an over ear as I wear mine most of the day when on bigger videa edits.

It’s actually now dependant on firmware I think for both the lens and camera combo. When I tested it it didn’t force into crop mode so I could shoot with it at 28-35 mm without the crop. But other’s since I put out that video have not been able to get it to work as the lens firmware forces it into crop mode.

Thanks for this video. I’m about ready to pull the trigger on two Blackmagic Video Assist recorders for my R5c cameras…I’m assuming the 29.97 HD records since the R5c is in the Cinema line of Canon. Any knowledge on that by chance?

Yeah I did, I put a 1TB in there and used it as a fast scratch drive. Though the way I have the drive setup (striped array) is almost as quick and for scratch I now use computer HDD as that is twice as fast than the M.2 (over 1000 mb/s read/write I think)

Thanks so much! I’ve not extensively used the R8 for any long form content. I know that it does overheat in certain scenarios on longer recordings so you would need to dive deeper on KZbin to find out if it will do what you need for your specific set of conditions.

Really nice video. I use the R5 as well and love it. In my opinion it's the best camera Canon has ever made. . . to this point. From one KZbinr to another let me share some advice :) In your title you should mention that this video is 5 tips for "video". You're going to get a lot of photographers clicking on this video then clicking off when they realize its video tips. That may impact your view duration numbers. Just a lesson I learned a long the way. I'm a new subscriber BTW. Cheers and happy new year.
