Nice video... I've done some of those paths myself and did a nice walk more centrally in Loughborough too. 👍😉

Loughborough's a surprisingly varied and interesting place to walk - even more so if you're a fan of industrial heritage. Love taking the canal path through the town especially in that regard!

The reason that the first section at Hooton is closed for maintenance is that they are improving the pathway.

Great vid. River valleys after rain....thanks for reminding me to stay on the bike this time of year. There is a clock walk around Nottingham. Probably could invent one around Derby. There is a 43.5-km circular trail called Chellaston, Long Eaton, Stanton by dale circular . Described as 'challenging' probably due to distance to do as a day walk. 'From leicestermercury : The obelisk was built in the grounds of Garendon Hall in the 1700s when the property was owned by landowner Ambrose Phillips. The hall was once one of the county’s grandest country houses, but it was requisitioned by the army during World War 2 and was left in a bad condition. The planning documents reveal the manicured gardens of the hall have now disappeared, but the obelisk and other structures which originally stood in the grounds, such as the Grade II*-listed Temple of Venus and Grade I-listed triumphal arc, still remain. ' Work on the obelisk was held up by bats!

Thanks - I was rather delighted by the different terrain so close to the town boundaries (the boggy swamp aside perhaps!). Hmn, I bet the Notts walk would take me more than a day's hike, but probably worth looking into. 😃 Likewise the Derby one - as I recall the countryside around Derby is stunning! And ahhhhh it was the one with the bats! My brother suggested it might be that - the lack of any info on site (or G-maps) left me a bit clueless. Thanks for the info!! 😀

Great vid. Nottingham wolds is hilly although not as hilly as Leicestershire wolds. As its off the tourist trail no stampede of people. There is a nice summer/dry spell walk from Clifton through Barton where there is a cafe with some llamas [or the other ones] and other animals to Lockington [House is worth a look -open once a year]. Then cross the Soar over at Red Hill to Sawley and a nice track to Shardlow. along the canal/river that uses Long Horse Bridge. Path is good but a bit wet/flooded when heavy rain. At this time of year is worth taking some cutters.
@llordllama3 ай бұрын
Yeah, the 'High' Leicestershire bit is quite challenging for hills. Pretty though. Thanks for the route tip, I'll have to plot a route over that way soon - been a while since I was last in Clifton, so a good excuse!

At least your planes going into East Midlands airport weren't doing it at 3am, unlike last week when I had the windows open in my flat because it was hot at night and got woken up about every 30 minutes.
@llordllama3 ай бұрын
I don't know - some nights we get the DHL 3am flights directly overhead...on a warm night they can be mighty loud!

There is a cafe at red hill.marina but if the pub was shut then that would also have been shut. There is also, for those who are a fan of dad's jokes, a chalet on the island at Redhill called Soar Bottom....Other than going into Keggy itself then Sawley Marina with cafe [open till 4] and shop [open till 5] with drinks, snacks and ice cream. Not checked recently but there might be a vending machine at East midlands parkway.

I had a feeling if I'd done the full route, I was going to head to EMP for a pick up by Mrs Llama. Then again by the last mile, jumping in the canal started looking more & more inviting (especially passing The Otter pub on t'otherside of the water!

we have been out a few times in wellies but it is hard work squelching through the mud! Another problem is that when some tracks dry up a little they can be rutted and uncomfortable to walk on especially when horses use them!
@llordllama5 ай бұрын
Aye! Nice to meet a horse out on the trail, but man alive they do chew up the ground. Ground locally's been quite hard the past couple of weeks...until this week's rains, so back to a spring in the under-sod again!

Yes the airport is a bit tricksy without the new map. There is a cafe at Lockington and a pub at Hemington. The track between the two by the old ruined church is nice. The air museum has a viewing platform for watching the planes.

Your comment about the air quality from the gypsum plant is rubbish. It's just water vapour which is driven off from the hydrated calcium sulphate, which is known as gypsum.

Ah but what of the romance of Ashby Castle with Ivanhoe, Prince John, and Robin Hood splitting the arrow The current Ivanhoe trail is a bit of a cheat as it should go all the way to York via Sherwood Forest and Coningsburgh and other sites of knightly derring doo.

I agree - love walking under trees almost as much as I love walking along the coast! There's a real dearth of wooded bits near to Llama HQ (Leicestershire in general seems a bit spartan on woods - although, there ARE some fantastic bits if you know where to look).
