@armorguy556317 күн бұрын
kinda thought it would have been a voltmeter more than likely but parents said that it's a radio receiver, in soviet times foreign radio stations were forbidden to listen to so people had to come up with some ways to bypass these regulations by making radio receivers at home, no wonder that soviet government was aware of this and they might have placed radio jammers around to make the foreign frequencies hard to catch

And i replace it , and the PC comes to live, it was Ubuntu Linux on it, the try to install Windows XP and it failed, becourse the Bios was to old, but after an Update, Windows XP runns just fine. An yes i also had to replace the CD Drive, i installed a SATA Drive with an Adapter to IDE. MY PC has now 2 GB of RAM an Nvidia Quadro2 GPU. And Tha Standart OEM HDD

Omg get youself some camera tripod and stop destroying hardware. 😦 Don't get me wrong, everyone has a mistakes, and gaining skills using a legacy hardware is a smart move, you jost shouldn't share this. In case you still want to share this, at least organise it properly.
@armorguy5563Ай бұрын
ayo look, this pc, it's old, and it's cpu is old too, pentium 4, nobody really would nowadays want one unless some retro enthusiast, besides what would really be called "destroying hardware" is most likely tangling with really expensive ones such as modern amd or intel cpus, I'd be more careful with those, but because this computer turned on, that means I didn't break it (yes with the cpu out it wouldn't turn on), and because it's old, has no software and it has erroring bios, idk if I should keep that pc or not

Oh yeah I just remembered, one time when I swapped out my gtx 1650 with 1080 on my main pc, I had accidentally dropped my 1660 super on the carpet and next to pc case, I could have imagined how much damage that would have caused and somehow and I have no clue how, it survived Edit: it was 1660 super and I had mistaken it for 1650 XD

@@armorguy5563 It's ok, I can agree on socket 478 systems value and this particular is pretty generic, but: 1) The value of those systems and so their rarity is slowly rising. In 15-20 years they gonna be as rare as 386/486 these days and you can sell 486 machines for a good money now. Sure there was much more s478 PCs on the wild, but much more has died cause of bad power supplies (dead south bridge) and horrible case airflow of it's era. That's was an end of capacitor-plague era too, resulting some of those motherboard were scavaged for caps. 2) That's not about a hardware itself, you always can replace any hardware. It's about sending a right message. Not like i'm shaming you, nothing fatal happened, we all understand that. Just seeing some basic preps to treat hardware would be nicer to watch. That's my viewers perspective and so is my feedback. Totally not saying "omg don't touch anything", my apologies if it sounded like this 🙂

In the past I worked on computers where CPU was pulled out of the socket and was glued to the heatsink like shown in the YT video. When that happen I got a sharp knife with a thin blade. At one of the corners of the processor work the blade between the processor HIS and the heatsink it self. Just need to get the blade under it just a hair and then give the blade a little twist it will come right off.

wouldnt recommend turning old hardware, without having a test probe to test the power supply, I picked up a 28 year old pc recently, its quite rare you cant find a lot info about it, siemens nixdorf pro c5, i have 2 and they need board repair, always test capacitors on motherboards when u get a test probe. otherwise something bad might happen, my one had a itty bitty tiny cooler and a pentium 133 mhz cpu paired with 64 mb of ram. or 128 idr. ill try get another 6 of pc's that are not old like 10+ years old.
@armorguy55632 ай бұрын
I did turn this pc on in the previous video but I get what you mean, yes sometimes old computers can turn into flying electronic popcorn hence why it's better to check if components are ok.
@alop75632 ай бұрын
@@armorguy5563my Siemens has 6 capacitors 3 dead and 1 with lower capacitance, this caused the FP (floppy disk) drive to not work?? I tested the floppy drive and it was totally fine from what I think, once I get a soldering iron and replace the caps I will install windows 95/98 old pentium CPUs ( like 133-600mhz? computers have backwards compatibility with DOS and maybe other 16bit os' interesting.. Does 16 bit Linux exist? And your computer looks like it might have super socket 7, this means that you can put CPUs upto 2ghz in, but with a normal socket 7 upto 600mhz, intel sued and because they made a CPU for socket 7 which was there's but the AMD CPU was 600mhz and they had to cease production.

if you installed windows xp to that you could probably play games like fable 1, halo, doom 3, age of empires 3, dungeon siege and well most early to mid 2000s games without issue. i can't really read german but that looks like a cmos battery error at boot just need to replace the battery. anyways they make adapters to install ssd's into those old machines. i have a retro gaming setup i made out of a 20 year old dell, has tons of games that don't work properly on modern computers.
@armorguy55634 ай бұрын
Well, I've been thinking of trying to do a hard reset by taking out the cmos battery and try to install windows xp, but I don't think I can play any games on it except for that classic pinball and solitaire and maybe original doom because this pc doesn't have a gpu and it has a pentium 4

@Tetracera.4 ай бұрын
@@armorguy5563 pentium 4's are the min requirement for most early to mid 2000s games, the lack of a dedicated gpu is a problem though, you can get a somewhat "modern" gpu like a nvidia gt 210 or 430 the pci variants for cheap and those work with xp, i'm using a 430 in mine. you could get older gpu's but people are charging more for those now. anyways even with just the built in intel gpu you could play games like dungeon siege or age of empires 2. that pinball game works even on pentium 1's. pentium 4's were around well into the 3d gaming era.
