Neutralized LOS is a plant fertilizer! (No need to put in a lot of baking soda, just let it just sit for 24 hours or until its cloudy and it's ready for nature to recycle)

Hi, how do you prevent the solder being sucked into the porous metal clay please? Is this why you use solder paste as opposed to pillions? Many thanks

I love these! Just a tip, you need to push the file not pull as your doing on top of the wire, pulling the file doesn’t remove or smooth any metal.

I always worry about using the denatured alcohol so near a flame. Aren’t there fumes that could light from the jar? I keep using spray flux instead. I know that’s not what the pros do. Don’t know if I’m just a chicken.

The "nut" is called a "chuck". The file you used was too wide and so coarse that if it was actually small enough to reach the surface, would have taken too much metal out. As for the metal, you can get it at Rio. She said it was 8mm, so order 8mmx1.5mm rectangle stock. You can get it by the foot. If you don't know how to cut the length for the size of ring you are making, just download a chart from online that shows you how many millimeters it is for any size based on the thickness of your material. I'm sorry but if people are trying to learn basics, they don't need to be taught using the wrong tools and 1/2 baked instruction.

Key is to heat up the silver some with propane torch. Will turn blacker faster. Not bright red with the heat just warmed.

hmm I tried easy solder and it worked oh so well. The trouble is when I pickle the piece the heat from the pot melts the solder.away. I guess because it is low temp. So I do not recommend easy solder if you are going to pickle the piece. Even for a few minutes.

+makesilverjewelry Nice tutorial. Where are the best sources for the half round Stirling silver and gold to purchase would you say (amazon)? I've been making coin rings, titanium, tungsten, etc for many years and I'm constantly asked for stackable rings so thought I'd give it a try :) Thanks for the tutorial. -Michael

I do this. .you can make lots and you can make oval ones if you can get an oval crochet hook by sticking both the crochet hook and end of the wire in your drill (chub? chuck?..mental block I swear I am senile lol) the bit where you stick the different bits in...and you can make your own chains quickly lol!
