why do Americans say sodder? come to think of it they say clabbard as well and Erbs...WTF in England where English comes from we say Sol der with an L and Clap Board and H erbs with a great big H! but apart from that I enjoyed this video. ..I just always wondered about the weird pronunciation lol!

check out 1soham1 channel...he teaches silver smithing. I understand being a rookie, we all have to start somewhere. This is very much a beginner with some serious balls to post this video which probably means she'll develop into a good metal smith some day. Hopefully. Proper tools are half of the battle. Experimentation is a serious plus - have no fear. Metal is one of the most forgiving materials around - if the project fails, melt it down and start over, provided you have the tools.

great tutorial! I was just wondering if the same principles apply to working with gold?

Thanks for making this video. I've been working with wrapping sea glass and stones, but I'm ready to learn a new skill to make bezels and mount them to a ring in addition to wrapping with silver wire. I love that you're so "real" and not super technical. I also love that you show that it's okay to use simple tools like the manicure tools. I do the same thing - I have some "professional" tools, but I also use what works. It's encouraging to new people to know that you don't have to go out and spend thousands of dollars buying all pro tools. Please continue to make videos for beginners like me. Oh, and give us a flash of that sweet baby.

there are pro´s about seeing this "mishap" too: you get to see how careful and attentive you gotta work when soldering - most people make it look like it´s no big deal. might make you careless, no? you can be encouraged in seeing that people with experience will fail too, from time to time. also you should think of this: a tutorial puts emphasis on explaining, which is really done better here than in most. only to craft and explain well at the same time takes MUUUCH effort. try it some times.

since you´re earning money from this vid, which means you´re doing this on a professional level (making us watch ads ;P ) i´ll give you this bit of criticism: i understood everything you said, i had to really turn up to max volium tho. your voice, in comparison to the clattering, is rather quiet and a bit blurry. this is about acoustic, not about your pronunciation. maybe there´s a way to improve it, which would be great, especially for non native speakers! the tutorial itself is real good!

Great video..I learned a few things there I didn't know,Funny how often the simple aspects of working with metals can be the most challenging.I'm not sure I could afford to use 925 16 gauge silver wire.the cost of silver in the UK has gone up by 400% in a decade. So nice hearing your wee toddler babbling away in the background:) Thanks and both of you take care ,Sophie xx

Love your videos. But how would I make thicker rings? Do you only use steel wire? What else? I have watched all your videos and have no idea what you use for metal itself.

Hi. I love your video. I would like to learn more about making silver jewelry. I have no idea where to start since where I can buy tools, supply, etc. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

You really do have a lot of unnecessary silver working tools. You really buy pickling mixture? I hope you found out what it is, so you aren't paying a premium for it still.

And for all of you seeking materials and suppliers, if you are considering doing this to make money consider this times are tough and people are spending less money on jewelry and more money on essentials like food and water.

I'm sorry, did I hear you say German silver' in the beginning? So this isn't silver at all, it's nickel siver, which contains no silver at all?

Not sure why you didn't dip the ring in an acid solution to neutralize the ring before quenching it in water

+makesilverjewelry Nice tutorial. Where are the best sources for the half round Stirling silver and gold to purchase would you say (amazon)? I've been making coin rings, titanium, tungsten, etc for many years and I'm constantly asked for stackable rings so thought I'd give it a try :) Thanks for the tutorial. -Michael

It's pretty risky to quench your metal right after soldering it because the solder could crack.
