What I love about Lunkina's Giselle is that she is so understated. No striving for drama or special "drifting" effects, no over-the-top weepy agonizing. She's beyond human pains and trials and is pure spirit - clearly not of this world. Her Giselle is so effective because of this economy of emotion and movement.

54:37 I really like the fact that they confirmed that Tensho Dai is Amaterasu, it's something that few people know that one of the readings of Amaterasu Omikami It's Tenshou Daijin, This reading is posthumous however after the comparison with the buddhism. The song also mentions the name of a certain Sarundasico who however does not exist, the name could remind one of the God Saruta-Hiko-Ookami who however is not named in the subtitles Instead of the name, the generic Yaoyorozu no Kami is used, which indicates all the kami, which is used many times in Shinto prayers.Furthermore, Suzuki is not praying in front of an altar dedicated to the kami but in front of Buddhas, this could represent that there was still a sort of syncretic cult.

Life is wonderful. 47:31 - From the roof, I can see humans, from the trees, I can see birds. 47:43 - I am alive… I am alive. 47:54 - Though I am a small sparrow, I live firmly. 48:01 - I am alive… I am alive. 48:11 - Though I am a small sparrow, I live firmly. 48:22 - At night, I listen to the sound of the mandolin, count the bells, and wait for dawn. 48:36 - At night, I listen to the sound of the mandolin, count the bells, and wait for dawn. --I am alive… I am alive. --Though I am a small sparrow, I live firmly.

A like on this performance, first and foremost, by Bastianini and Giulini.

This is much appreciated. Backhaus often spoke about the Beethoven 4th, and every chance to hear him play it, live or studio, is a gift. His straightforward approach to the music is always compelling; he interprets but doesn't add to what the score calls for, and in this sense - and it is the highest sense - he was a purist. The photograph of him is also a valuable contribution to his legacy.
