I’ve read that, after preheating, the lid has to be lifted to its full extent for it to be able to determine the thickness of the meat.

How do you add more time to something once the red light goes off on the opty grill XL?
@brianquigley19405 ай бұрын
Absolute BS. The "non" stick disappears after a few months of use... and if you use any kind of scourer it will damage the "coating" and cause rust. I learned this after repeated attempts to steep the lower grill plate in soapy water to "remove" the burnt on food, which always happens if you "refill" the grill, especially with tomatos or other soft veggies. The problem is the grooves where the burnt food accumuates and requires hard work with a wooden spatula to remove (if you can!).

Absolute lie, cleaning is the reason this device will go permanently to shelf after several uses. It is non-stick surface, but the grill channels are so deep that you will have to go each one separately with sponge to get this thing clean. Wet towel won't clean a thing. Unless you have a decent dishwasher - don't even bother buying this thing, pure waste of money

Lol just blew the dust off mine, haven’t used it in years, but I bought some burgers that I’d like to cook on it😂

There is trick that I found out about this. Let it cool down, then reheat it. Things will slide off of it with just a paper towel. Indeed you have to make sure you go into channels but it's not that much of a hassle
@_deathcry9 ай бұрын
@@astralknight10 "Reheat it" - and how much time will it take? And it won't change the fact that you still need to scrub out bits of spices/crumbs in those channels with sponge or paper towel. In the ad you see how a woman wipes everything off in 5 seconds, in reality you will need 5 minutes to make it actually clean.

Use a wet dishwashing sponge, and make sure it's a cheapo one, because you don't want a dense sponge.... You want a light one that forms to the grooves of the grill.
@_deathcry9 ай бұрын
@@camraid9 I went further and cut out negative channels in sponge so that I could wipe 4-5 channels at a time. It is still awfully tidious. Before rubbing it you need to rinse it with very hot water to get max amount of oil/tallow washed off and only then start rubbing with dish washing soap. Also you have these 5 bumps in the middle on a bottom plate, that tend to rip your sponge apart, and on top plate you have the opposite - 5 small holes that tend to get bits of food stuck in them and you need a toothpick to clean them out. Overall - whatever you do you still need much more than 5-10 seconds of wiping with wet paper towel advertised here

You need to rest your meat for about 5 minutes. It continues to cook. We have one and it tends to overcook if you cook it to medium. Cook to rare and it will cook to medium after it rests.

@southwestsearch4 жыл бұрын
I've got the optigrill smart and it is smart. Rather than preheat the optigrill and potentially burn myself, I spread frozen vegetables over the cold grill plates. This is where it's smart. It won't let me set the frozen button. It will cook manually. No big deal. I'm still working on it. Bests the steamer.

Experiment. I was reluctant to add butter or cheese to my vegetable steamer as they would have gone through the drainage holes. Butter might work to coat the grill plates. Cheese? Probably stick to the top and bottom grill plates.
