Hey. Great question. In NY, where I’m from, this is the ruling… The sale of lead fishing sinkers weighing one-half ounce or less is prohibited in New York. There is nothing about making your own. All of the tackle stores near me sell heavy weights, up to 12 ounces, for bottom bouncing for walleye.

All I can hit is pike in the Georgian Bay area :( I'm a new Fisher went with my little brother and grandpa who are really good n know all the local spots. I fished for 3 days bout 14 hours a day n got skunked only got one 2foot pike no bass or anything. I used non-pheromone jigs. Bright yellow or white. Any tips from the pros? Is it too late in the season?

I agree when someone parks right beside you it’s super frustrating, and I’m just throwing this out there not because I know the situation you were in but in Lake Erie depending on the species your targeting there are many rock piles and specific spot where the fish are hiding out so there are cases where I think we need to have some grace because the desired areas are not always huge areas, again not saying that’s your situation I tend to agree it drives me nuts but there’s times I sorta get it

Thanks for commenting. I’m used to it as a guide, when walleye and perch fishing but this was an exception and here’s why. That boat was passing us at full speed as one of my clients was reeling in a fish and he stopped in his tracks. He sat down about 40 feet from us and dropped lines. He stayed there until I pulled out my phone to video him and moved to where you see him, which is about 150 feet away. He had out of state registration so we know he had no idea of what we were fishing. Not another boat within miles of us. It's become more and more prominent as on the water courtesy fades…

jim, you hit the nail on the head yet again. Experience shines through here. i like to run the smallest beads i can in between my hooks. i've noticed less break offs, but i have no real evidence that the beads in between really did anything. My theory when you try to drill a hard ball it deflects, teeth being the drill and the beads being the balls which protect the line.

My buddy saw this hack a few years back and we decided to run a comparison one day fishing the St Lawrence. Identical heads, baits, line, and both fished off the front deck. No discernable difference initially but when we were able to fish each bait simultaneously for more than 30 minutes the "primed" bait had less bites. One day obviously doesn't prove anything but my buddy agreed that it wasn't effective and he stopped stretching them that day.

"Fish on" from a bass or small boat fishermen. I'm not sure how or when this expression migrated from salt water charters and big boats to bass fishermen. It goes back well before my time and was yelled from the mate to captain letting him know they were hooked up. Was a necessity because of the distance between the helm and the stern deck and the decibel level of the diesel motors. The first time I heard it on a lake a bass fisherman was solo and yelling something . Thought he was in distress at first. I was too far away to hear exactly what he yelled but realized it a few fish later when I was about 100 yards away.
