Great video guys how much line did you end up removing to get 100ft ?

Hey. Thanks for watching. I think after all the adjustments, we took off about 20 yards or so. We wanted to get in on the money and we did.

So if you get hung up and have to cut and retie, you're not going to be accurate anymore. Well, that sucks.

Thanks for watching and commenting. It’s for dipsey rods and in my 46 years of guiding, I’ve never gotten one hung up and had to break it off as they are for suspended fish and no where near the bottom. If it did happen and lost a foot or two, you’d simply compensate for the loss of line length.

Well Capt… I’m sure you’ve had someone over the years send out a Dipsey too fast & it goes into a spin taking out another one. Don’t get upset, just bring it all in, cut off the business end and put on an another reel that is calibrated already. I carry an extra line counters in both 20 & 30 size just for that reason.

@tbsomerville5798 great idea. Thanks for taking the time to comment

Why do people still do it this way. Much simpler to buy a small line counter that actually measures line and load your spool checking the reel counter against the portable one. Zero both meters, wind 20 yards of line on - initially the meters won't agree so zero both again and wind more on. Eventually, both meters will agree and then you're finished. You can use this technique anywhere, even on board on the way out. Forget about tape measures

Thanks for watching and the feedback, however nothing is more accurate then this method and it makes for a great video!

@JimHanleyfishing it makes a great video but it's not the most accurate. Also, what happens if you lose a chunk of line to a break-off? Do you head for shore with your tape measure?

Ha. Yep. As I said it makes a great video. Been there…. Thanks for watching
