The take up spool in my camera has no slot in it. It's got metal teeth, seemingly to catch the perforations. Is that safe to use or should I find another take up spool ?

Having problems to track/run the super8 film with my Canon Auto Zoom 1014. In my camera is possible to see the film gate working but when I put the cartridge, the film gate seems not to track the film, so my sharpie mark is still in the same place... Trying to figure it out how to make the film run !!! Any ideas??

for focusing... after you've zoomed in and focused on the subject... once you zoom out to the desired focal length... the subject may not appear in focus anymore in the viewfinder, correct? Thanks for the video!

I have a Canon Auto Zoom 1014. The motor and the film gate work, but when I take out the Super 8 cartridge, my Sharpie mark has not moved. I tried the same Super 8 cartridge on my Yashica Sound 20XL Super 8 camera, and the cartridge film does move. Is there a way to fix this? I don't know how to make sure that the cartridge latches on.

Once you’re comfortable, you are 100% supposed to learn to load in a changing tent or changing bag, blindly by feel. That film can still be fogged on the edges in the daylight spool deeper than you think. My college final in Bill McDonald’s Cinematography class (Bill is former UCLA film school Dean) was wild. Bill had us load 9 different cameras in the changing bag 100% by feel (Arri S, Arri SR2, Bolex, Eclair NPR, 2 Aaton, MoviCam, Panavision Gold, learning to set the loop by feel and then listening to the sound of the film as it moves through the camera. If the loop isn’t right it can scratch the film or snap the film in camera. I was one of only 2 students in the entire class that got an A that semester. Jack Green’s daughter was the other A. 🥳👍🏻

Do you recommend the Kiev 16U (and/or the 16UE)? I have tried to see footage from this camera and it's VERY hard to find! Most people take the lenses off and use them on the BMPCC which is a decent idea but I'd really like to see what THIS 16mm camera can do and if it's worth it to invest in 16mm film gear.

Great! I have, what I would only believe, the entry level model of this series. I have Sankyo Super CME 330 HI-FOCUS. I also have the AUTO MAN LOCK on top, but what would I use that for. It seems you connected it with the slow motion function, which mine doesn't have. When I move the dial, the smaller "arm" in the view finder goes all the way left for Auto and right for Lock.

Hi as Kahl sells film again I foud your examples on NC 17. I read in the comments that you processed this film as a reversal (positive). Did it need much grading? Is it still possibe to get acceptable result in projection?

I bought a used Beaulieu 5008S in 1982 - having previously exposed many Super 8 cassettes with my father's Sanyo camera. When the Super-8 film was first projected from the Beaulieu, I couldn't believe my eyes at the fantastic image quality that could be achieved with this camera! Image steadiness, depth of field, simply fantastic! In the meantime, I was using the ELMO GS1200 M&O for projection, which at the time was the brightest Super 8 projector that money could buy....
