I capture my analog video in the most exquisite way, by running the the signal into a blackmagic analog to sdi into a blackmagic video assist into prores 422hq and then printed on 16mm Kodak Vision 3 500T 7219 film via an arrilaser and then scanning it back on a lasergraphic 6.5k HDR, truly the best quality.

This has got me thinking,... 🤔 Maybe it's time I _did_ buy some that there Barge Cement ⛽, as long as I wear a P100 respirator I should be fine. And I can watch Nemesis whilst gluing all the leather bits together. 👍Sounds like plan. And no chance on the subscriber count going down. I'm sharing this with all my 50 yr. old GenX friends yo!

This was SO GOOD. I too, love certain episodes that the majority seems to dislike. Example: DS9's "Move along Home"=REAL Star Trek. I know EVEN the actors didn't like that one, but I did. I'm SO glad I found you. Subscribed.

i Like the tone, it reminds me of the unreliable narrator element in Douglas Adams writing. A little heavy on the splash graphics and audio though. many thanks. by the way, i subscribed just so i could unsubscribe as directed... just doing my part.,

The guy who played “Brone” in this episode is Canadian and had a prominent role on the most Canadian of Canadian TV staples “Road to Avonlea.” But you labeled this most Canadian of Canadians an American and that messes with my brain

I liked this episode too. And FYI, there is an episode of the (unfortunately Canadian) 90s Outer Limits TV series called “Hearts and Minds” from around the same time that has a similar plot. It’s a darker tone with some decent twists and turns. It’s worth checking out

I got really into Trek in 2006 when G4TV picked up TOS...It took maybe 3 episodes one Saturday and I was hooked. I had always watched TNG with the family as a wee-lad, and watched the TNG movies as they came out. But I hadn't watched DS9 until a little over a year ago...and HOLY SHIT. Bro TELL me Ben Sisko isn't a MADD Ladd😆💯🖖

I am reasonably certain an astute gentlemen such as yourself had no issue witnessing this momentous event unfold with your own bitter gaze, although I suppose it would be remiss not to confirm it. You have indeed finally successfully accrued 1000 subscribers. It is common on this video sharing platform that this epic milestone is celebrated in a special video, and I encourage you to do the same. However, I would never intrude upon another fine sir's business matters; I leave such choice to you.

I have repeatedly impressed upon my adoring masses that I do not desire their subscriptions, and yet they defy me. I despise their insolence. - That said, 1k will be addressed in the next video... still a ways out. - Thanks! <3

I've got one of these (though without the component option). I, can't say I know how to actually use it appropriately either, but you can actually use it to compare different TBCs with the different Jitter measurements. Jitter is off the charts without a line TBC. The other feature I plan to use is playing a color bar VHS tape through different VCRs and seeing which VCRs reproduce it most closely to what the VM700T is expecting and that can be compared to the pattern generator that created the test tape.

Tek's self tests that it completes before it starts up are really important. The tests are there because you have to rely on it's measurements it's taking, this is actually really important if you were using a machine like this to develop and/or test products. It also can stop further damage to the machine if something is wrong, hence all the relay switching. It was also a way for you to know what's wrong and what to replace and/or service. Tek gear was designed to be completely serviceable by the owner. IDK about new gear, I only really know about 80's and 90's Tek stuff. Don't be afraid to run the extended diagnostics, It's not going to destroy anything, it will only tell you if something is already dead. It contains even more glorious 80's/90's ka-chunk and clicking relays. Back then, Tek stuff was built with extremely high end components for the time so it's no wonder why gear like this is still working. I would be willing to wager that they will continue to work for many many years. Yeah equipment like that would cost as much as a new car. A VM700T with no options was around 22,000 usd (late 90's - 2000ish) when it was being sold. (oops should have kept watching) Oh yeah, Tek and other test equipment manufactures also had touch CRTs back in the early 80's, my Tek 11401 and Tek DSA602A have touch CRTs. They used IR leds if memory serves me correct. Also test gear needs time to warm up, idk about the VM700 series stuff, but my entire 80's-90's Tek lab (12 or more machines) all need around 20 or more mins before a measurement can be reliably used, obviously the machines work before this warmup, but yeah generally you'd boot your test gear in the morning and let them warm up before you got started working after lunch lol. I think the reason it's "animating" is not really that it's an actual animation but rather a consequence of the machine directly controlling the CRT beam. You wouldn't happen to have the VMREMGR - Video Measurement Remote Graphics software, or the VMT - VM700T Remote Control Software would you? (I think 3.5" floppies but might be on CDs) If you do, can you please upload it to the internet archive? There's a large group of people archiving all the older Tek software and PROMs. We are trying to keep these machines working, bring even more machines back from the dead, and allow people to use the machines to their full potential. Tek actually encourages people to do this archival, which is really cool and not like many companies. Cool stuff, thanks for the trip down memory lane and thanks for keeping this beast out of the dump.

@@ReasonablyBritish A dang shame. Ah well the hunt continues! You're welcome. If Tek stuff further interests you there is a VintageTek museum in Beaverton Oregon, they have a neat site containing older Tek stuff, some really cool pictures, articles, and what not. Again, thanks for keeping that thing out of the dump, you would be sad to know how much wicked gear is being destroyed and recycled.

Tektronix is a very interesting company, they are actually headquarted near me. In the early 1990's we had two of their tabloid printers. Large format color printers were very rare at the time. Tektronix used 4 color crayons that were melted onto paper in dithered pattern. These printers were beasts about 70 pounds each and could run for years. One time a repairman told us these printers were set-up in sheds just printing out reports without any human interaction for months, I assume someone needed to re-fill the paper and crayons occasionally. Oh and I almost forgot; The Noise, the sound of the carrage moving back and forth, it took about 12 minutes to print a full sheet of tabloid paper. I can only imagin what government projects they are up to today.

If you are able to provide insight on this I would be VERY thankful! Having an Apple silicone MacBook, I’m running out of options for capture devices I can plug into my computer and actually have something like OBS recognize the thing. I need to record analog video out of an analog video mixer (using either composite or s video cables) - do you think the retrotink would suffice? Instensity shuttle doesn’t work with m series macs :(
@ReasonablyBritish
@ReasonablyBritish 2 ай бұрын
If you’re recording from an analog mixer, then I’m assuming you won’t need a time base corrector (the mixer probably handles this) in which case the RetroTink 2X-Pro would be a great solution. You would still need a Mac compatible HDMI to USB-C capture device, but even a $10 one from amazon would probably work for you and OBS. - I don’t know your exact setup, so take this advice with a grain of salt. If you’re doing really important archival work, this is probably not what you’re looking for. Hope that helps!
