It should be stated that the workpiece being worked might be a platter, meaning that screw holes or pivot pin holes deface the piece, reducing its value. While I had the jig, it had to be repaired as the glue that was used to make the jig separated, causing the first problem. The other problem was using a router with a Festool 1400. However, now will accept the German brand, it can't do what I want without defacing the piece.
@rockler6 күн бұрын
You can alternatively secure it in place with a very sturdy double sided tape. Just be extra cautious and move slowly to not jerk it out of place. Cheers!

Hey Rockler, I'm new to this. Can you tell me if the brad nails and other screw hardware used to support the tenon joints are overkill? Based on the design and the large number of mortise and tenon joins, it seems like this could be hardware free? Especially when it's all together, it doesn't seem like anything could come apart.
@rockler6 күн бұрын
Yes, in theory. The addition of fasteners is for extra security against the outdoor elements. If you want to avoid the fasteners, you could use epoxy instead of wood glue for a more weather resistant adhesive too.

Why not use clamps at all corners, instead of clips-clamps? Full disclosure: I've never built anything.
@rockler27 күн бұрын
The clips only hold it in alignment. The clamps need to apply pressure towards the joint. So, the clips hold things in place, while you put the clamps on. They are an extra set of hands.

Block of wood did not work but what worked well is a small diy vise which have lips 50mm. I attached them to the blade so that the wise get stopped of the table and using wrench losened nut. The copilot was wrong saying to losen you need to rotate nut into opposite direction to the rotation of the blade. On my table saw I have to rotate nut into the same direction as blade rotates.

Doing an outdoor wood deck for myself. Thinking about anchoring it down, how to do it?? Hidden fasteners are popular but I am leaning towards using surface screws. I also am thinking about wood plugs for the holes. Is there a best choice glue for outdoor, wet locations? About 800 plugs would be needed. The deck boards are Yella Wood 5/4 yellow pine. Anyone make a 5/16 plug cutter you know of? I do not see any 5/16 countersinks yet. Excellent video!
@rockler27 күн бұрын
Hello, Titebond 3 wood glue is waterproof and rated for outdoor use. Here is a link - www.rockler.com/titebondtrade-iii-ultimate-wood-glue-optional-sizes - We do sell 5/16 plug cutters as well. Here is a link - www.rockler.com/5-16-plug-cutter - Not sure about the diameter of the counter sinks though. If you are really a wood worker, you don’t go buy jigs , you make them, when I visit Rockler & see a jig or fixture I like, I’ll make a mental note or take a picture , go to me shop & MAKE IT.
@rocklerАй бұрын
That is silly. It's like saying "If you're a real homeowner, you don't buy a house, you build it." Not building your own jigs doesn't make you any less of a woodworker. Some people have businesses and don't want to spend labor hours building jigs and like to know that if an error is made, they can quickly replace it. Some people only have limited time in the shop and they would like to spend it building cool things, rather than building things to build cool things later. Some people just started woodworking yesterday and don't have the experience or confidence yet to build their own, but still want to get things done. Whatever the case may be, we are here for all woodworkers, whether we are making the jig for them, or in your case, providing inspiration for you to build your own. Our goal is to help you create with confidence. 🙌
@charliedavis6143Ай бұрын
@ first of all , I did build my own house . Both my grandpa’s were carpenters, they didn’t have stores to but all the jigs & fixtures, they made them & they taught to learn how to fix your mistakes . Your goal is to make money , that’s the main thing that’s keeps you in business. I did visit Rockler & woodcraft , I see a jig I like , I build it .
@rocklerАй бұрын
That's great! We are trying to say that we are here for all. Our main goal is to be a resource to woodworkers and not let woodworking become a lost art. Yes, to do so, that means we have to make money and we are a business, but people come first. However, we aren't trying to battle you here. We are saying that you shouldn't look down on fellow woodworkers for buying a tool. A jig is a tool to get something done, whether you buy it or build it. Why wouldn't you want to support fellow makers, no matter what they are making, we are all cut from the same cloth. Are you not a real woodworker if you buy a table saw instead of fashioning a hatchet from stone and twigs? It doesn't matter, and the end of the day, you worked and made something. Again, like we said before, we are here for all whether we are making the jig for them, or in your case, providing inspiration for you to build your own. We appreciate you, our fellow woodworker. 💙

I need to build my Queen horizontal with a sofa in front so the bed folds down onto the sofa seating. The back cushions can be moved to the inner headboard of the bed, if wanted there. I'll build a base for the sofa with fold up storage for extra bedding. I think the faux handles can be replaced with longer ones but I'm thinking I may need to change that to some other sturdy leg supports. I can't find a set of drawings so I'm on my own but you did a great job explaining this build Thank you! Lesley

You can make anything. You can make your own helicopter or make your own house. However, some people have limited shop time and want to spend it making cool stuff, and not making things to make cool stuff later. Also, some people don't want to go though the engineering process, and would rather buy a tool or jig to do what they need done right away. Whatever the case may be, we are here for all woodworkers of any level. Also, we don't recommend building your own helicopter. The videos we've seen about them generally don't end well. Thanks💙
