Thank you very much for posting this. I was curious to see where my Grandfather grew up before he emmigrated to Coventry post WW1 😉😅. He was an RAF engineer yet his hobby obsession of building replica ships finally makes sense to this south UK born, now Aussie. So glad I got his surname and not the several generational Ebenezer Dicks from his mother's side 😂. Cheers, I enjoyed your presentation very much.

I have lived in Dunoon since 2016, and only ever passed through Greenock. I’ve only paid attention to Fergusons, & the embarrassment of Glen Sannox, & Glen Rosa ships (running 8 years late). I often wondered how prosperous the place once was with it’s ship building & trade, and how let down the residents must feel, with council, & government inaction to improve their community. Greenock has so much that could be celebrated, and tourism hot spot with the right investment. So sad really. Thank you so much for such an interesting video.

Been away from Greenock for over 30 years now, but still have connections to the town and visit regularly. Growing up in Tasker Street in Bow Farm area of the town was great as a kid and spent all my childhood playing in the golf course, cemetery and Clyde shipyards, without ever spending 1 minute on video games 😊 People always look on the negative side of the decline in Greenock over the years, but that scenario is replicated throughout the UK and should be taken in that context. Greenock, Gourock and Port Glasgow benefit from being on the beautiful Clyde coast, in the stunning West of Scotland and if you open your eyes to the positives around you, then you will love this area as I still do. Regardless of wherever I’ve travelled throughout the world, the people of Scotland and in particular (I’m biased) the West of Scotland, are the friendliest people I’ve ever met, bar none ❤

Hi -- I was just looking at some books in my antique collection. I have a set that is very valuable, and in the front covers of this set is the bookplate of Saltoun, a set acquired in the early 1700s for the estate. So i guess I have some of this guy's books. This is very interesting....

My mum nee Betty McNaught was born in the "top houses" (tenement building) along with her sisters Margaret, Ellen, Jessie...they attended Ardchattan school but eventually moved to Glasgow...my mum is now nearing 98 and still going strong. My grandad John McNaught worked at Bonawe quarry. My gran Jessie McNaught had another six sisters and one brother in Glasgow. We had our annual holidays for a few years in the late 50's when the sisters and families made our own campsite about half a mile from the quarry. I remember going out fishing in a large rowing with my dad and five uncles where I was the only one who caught a fish at seven years old lol. I remember there was a grocer's van used to visit the campsite everyday...I think his name was Ruben. Great memories.

I wonder if Donald Cameron of Locheil is buried there? He was known as "The Gentle Locheil" as he stopped Glasgow being ransacked, and was known to be kind to not only the Jacobites suffering wounds from battle, but also the Redcoats who were wounded too! He was an associate of Iain Ciar MacDougall, and they were both in France as fugitives, and wanted by the English government! I hope that my memory is not failing me!!!!!! I enjoy all your videos and look forward to them every day now. My balance does not allow me to go on visits to all the places, and you do it for me! ......old Tich.

The area you thought was maybe a conservatory was actually called the Orangery. So with the central heating they may have been able to keep more delicate fruit trees in there. Also there is a Dairy at the back of the house. Over the past 50 years I have explored the house many times when there was still amazing fireplaces and Delft Tiles in some rooms. Massive central heating pipes in the basement. Lots of stuff has been nicked over the years. I can see from your video that it is much more dangerous now than when I used to go there. Thanks for the tour
