Thank you for filming this. It answered some of my queries about the Marques' background. I'm from Cardiff. You may find it interesting to visit Cardiff Castle and Castell Coch, fairly nearby....they both have variations of the same designs and taste in furnishings , all from the Butes. There are differing views about the Marques' input in the area...building it up and making it prosperous or using it's raw materials and population to gain more wealth for himself/themselves, or a mixture of both. A read of the history of Cardiff and South Wales during the time of the Butes may also be enlightening, as would a look at a map of the Cardiff area and the names of many of the streets. It could be thought of as part of Scotland's history in South Wales....possibly.

I should mention that I enjoyed your presentation of the piece and your inclusion of PS Waverley to finish...brought a smile. I'll keep up with others you do. Many thanks.

Thanks for the additional information! I did skim over their time in Wales, and kind of guessed they would have mixed reviews, like on the Isle of Bute.

Ah, the PS Waverley, love that vessel. I've a couple of history videos from Waverley trips on the channel too!

The 7th. Marquis, while he was Earl of Dumfries had a career as a F1 racing driver and was known as Johnnie Dumfries. He disliked using his titles, and was also known as Johnnie Bute. He sold Dumfries House in Ayrshire along with it's contents, and King Charles while Prince of Wales, was one of the rich people who put a lot of money into it's purchase! I'm sire that with the money he had, he could have given it to the Scottish nation, but I suppose that is how the rich keep money in the family! Thankyou for the fantastic tour of the building Mount Stuart. It shows what money could do, and the difference between the wealthy and the poor estate workers who toiled many hours to keep these people in a style far beyond what was acceptable! A great video, packed full of information, as usual. You work extremely hard on our behalf, and are a credit to Scottish history. ...Tich.

Thanks Tich! Thanks for the info. And yes, the rich get richer while the poor keep struggling, disgraceful!

What a place it is! Must be the most wealthiest building in the whole of Scotland? They sold Dumfries House in Ayrshire for 7 million as well. King Charles, as Prince of Wales had a "BIG" say in the matter and it's later planning! So they still keep well in with those who find money easily! However, some parts are truly awe inspiring, and never likely to be seen anywhere else. The Crypt full of giant butterflies is slightly odd, but an old highland saying was that butterflies were the spirits of those departed, so who knows, they may have them there to remind them who has died, even though there are no graves or coffins there at present! I think that this is one of the most impressive and informative place, which you have put on video. I also think that you are both surpassing, very many people who do this for a living, and appear on TV. I am sure that you could do programmes, and end up doing them better than the ones we see at present. Keep up the good work!!!!! ............Tich.

What a place.I was surprised to hear of the welsh connections . My Dad was from Glamorgan (Treharris)Wales. This one is definitely a re-watch -so much detail. Thank you. I do like when you put your personal opinions/observations in the videos.

Thank you, I try to be honest with my own views, even if sometimes it's not the most popular one 😉 And yes, there's a lot to unwrap in that video 🤣

Fantastic insight into the history of Mount Stuart. I feel privileged to have had my wedding there and have been able to see some of the less seen areas such as the swimming pool, burgess chapel and the hidden staircases. The attention to detail through the whole house is beyond belief and can't recommend a visit highly enough.

Well done . Beautiful place . I must add though and you so perfectly put it that it also seems a bit vulgar . Beautiful but a bit much. Too much. I did enjoy seeing the bedrooms . The horoscope ceiling ,I like the idea . The craftsmanship especially the bedposts , wonderful . Quite a place Julie . Thanks for once again being an educated and gracious tour guide .

The craftsmanship is breathtaking. The show of wealth, not so much. I find these places more frustrating than awe inspiring most times. There is no denying the skills of the many people drafted in to produce detail like this, however. The chapel was quite a special place!

Beautifully done. The wealth really is quite vulgar. What can you do though? Thanks for another great video.

The craftsmanship was quite amazing, though you expect it with the amount of wealth. It was a bit ott for my taste, far to busy, why add detail to every single surface imaginable.... Thanks for watching!

Hello, my name is Zaynab El-Fatah from Australia and I really enjoy watching your videos on exploring Scotland's history. After writing a book earlier this year called "Isobel of Glemoriston", my daughter and I decided to visit Scotland and we're heading over soon on the 3rd Sept. We will be visiting the Isle of Bute while we're staying for a couple of days in Oban around the 13th Sept. Are you available as a tour guide for us on the Isle of Bute? Thanks. Regards, Zaynab.

Thanks for watching! Unfortunately my schedule is booked for September. A Google search will throw up the local guides who operate on the island. There is also a sight seeing bus tour leaves from the centre of Rothesay. All the Rothesay sites are within walking distance of each other anyway! Enjoy your trip!
