All homes should be built to accommodate the elderly and disabled. This will be better for everyone. Large wide doorways and hallways make using a cane, walker or wheel chair much easier. Bathrooms or wet rooms need to have flat floors and no shower hump or pan. A flat floor allows for easy access and drains need to provided. Easy to use lever door and faucet handles are easier for the elderly to grip and open. Main floors should include a master bedroom, restroom, shower, laundry and wide walk in closet with few steps to enter. Homes should be designed with aging in place in mind.

New homes should come with solar panels, a rain water collection system and an electric vehicle charger in the garage. Large roof overhangs add beauty and protection for the doors , windows and siding from the sun, wind and rain Blower door testing and air sealing are under appreciated tools for adding confort and reducing heating and cooling costs.

Hiring out the utilities is standard practice because your required to be a licensed electrican when it comes to installing the conduit for underground entrances or the overhead mast and meter boxes if the homeowner does this chances are your local utility will not hook you up to the grid the reason being is most if not all utilites require you to have a permit pulled because licensed electricans know the size wire the amperage and they have the proper tools and training . you require special lug wrenches for connecting in the meter socket and in the main panel . even when the electrican is done the local utility will inspect everything up to the meter socket before they do the final live tapping on the grid aka either overhead hot tapping or padmount connections for underground wires . has for staining dont go buying the cheap stuff go for Benjamin moore stains they look better last longer and better quality i know ive stained decks long enough to know if you want quality you pay for it .

I would’ve made the porch twice as big.
@This1LifeWeLive2 күн бұрын
It was a tough call since it would also have made our basement safe roof larger by default, and we were already planning a big deck on the rear and a small deck on the side :) BUT, we did change the sizing of the hosue from the original design, so perhaps increasing the size of the deck to match would have been good.

🤔The porch ? Are you going for a rustic ranch look? Vented Sofits? Are you adding framing for a level celing ? It should be vented and insluated aganist condesed moisture buildup. you will make it beautiful.😁🥰 Great video Thanks

We were originally going with a farmhouse style look, but as the house went it, it changed dramatically, and is now 70's style simple modern . . . it (coughs) is fully opposite of what we had planned, but the house has a mind of it's own and we are just following along with what it wants, lol

Everyone has their own views. Whenever possible the ladder should be Facing the Work area. To me the porch is too high where attached to the wall and does not slope enough to provide any shade. It is however if one of the 3 small windows above it open, a valuable Fire Escape. Those brackets were likely powder coated and were just fine. Don't forget Hurricane brackets. You will likely want glass panels on the front side of the porch, or railings of some kind. Your son is certainly able to mow the lawn. That remote mower is a pricy toy. Once all the Inspections are signed off you can make a huge storage area above the oversize garage. Put in a beam for a hoist. List your queries and have a scheduled sit down meeting with the Contractor every Monday morning. Most would have had much lower ceilings to further lessen waste space that must be heated and cooled. Any water supply going to unheated areas must have those long (12"+) Freeze resistant taps. Hard wired Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Sensors.

Earen does mow the front area there where I demonstrated the robot, that's why I could demo it there, lol. Since the geese were still on the christmas trees I could not put the bot out there because the weedy spots needed chopping down first ;)

*Gosh so much is happening inside now. 🙂As to the broken timber, you should have been informed it got broken, plus then they can replace it. But due to having two different crews in at the same time... it is unlikely that no one will own up. 😞 I don't know your rules, regulations and council codes to comment on the plumbing and heating setup. But hopefully it is all up to code and all put in safely. Is there a fan extractor going into the bathrooms?? Is your shower 4 walls... if so look up ShowerDome website & on YT.... as they fit on top of the shower. Keeps all the steam inside and saves the ceiling & walls from future mould. Yep the ShowerDome is NZ made... but there maybe similar ones made in the USA. I have just renovated my bathroom & had one installed as well as a fan extractor. AMAZING to have one. 🙂. See you in the next video. PS: I do not think that the builders will mind your changes to the deck 🙂NZ*

So much fun. I would wrap plumbing with foam to prevent sweating and causing damage. You expecially should wrap the outside spigot plumbing. A lot of water might flow jn them. . Also insulate your plumbing vent if it's in an unheated location. It helps keeping it from freezing up from moisture that goes up it. Mine froze on me until I insulated the pipe. You will get the sewer gas in the house. I thought it was my dog.

@This1LifeWeLive3 күн бұрын
It definitely doesn't work in damp grass. As the day went on, we went to the neighbors to help him bale up and collect his alfalfa mix. It struggled both on the field and with the dampness. Even our Maxilator grapple accumulator sucks in slightly damp grass, which makes it a pain in the butt to try to use in Michigan when most of the time the air makes everything damp ;)

They really should have had another telehandler or got scaffolding to build the wall in place. The notion that the top header is now broken/stressed/fractured would set me off. How much time did they really save doing it that way? It could have gone horribly wrong. Not trying to be a negatice nancy, just think it could have gone alot more smoothly.
@This1LifeWeLive3 күн бұрын
I agree, it certainly could have gone VERY wrong. I think if they ever had to do this size of a lift again, they likely would bring in another machine to help lift. That's a lot of stress and tension to put on yourself :P
