Nope. All the heaters I've tried check the voltage is within range of the set voltage (12/24) only before starting. I've run a heater on the bench power supply all the way down to 9V when it stops dead.

how are you measuring housing temp? where is that probe on that meter placed? do you find that tuning for the lowest ppm setting you get a steady steam of exhaust smoke? if i tune for 0 smoke, I usually get high ppm. i find my lowest ppm settings produce a steady stream of exhaust smoke. is this good for longevity of the heater my method?

question, i've been tuining my diesel heater with that co meter and tuning for sub 30ppm on low and high. i find that if i tune it this way i get a small amount of white smoke coming out of the exhaust constantly and this gives me the lowest ppm. If i tune for 0 smoke i get really high ppm. is this normal and okay to not soot up if i tune for sub 30ppm but have constant subtle white exhaust smoke?
@DavidMcLuckie

White smoke or steam? White smoke would be vapourised diesel that hasn't burned. Which shouldn't be possible from a running heater. Does it smell like diesel?

Excellent! Still mystified how fuel reaches the glowplug and what the mesh actually does. And how it runs once the glowplug switches off.
@DavidMcLuckie
@DavidMcLuckie Күн бұрын
Glow plug heats mesh until red/orange hot. Fuel is pumped onto hot mesh, vaporises and ignites. Runs like this for a little bit to heat the burn chamber a bit. There is another mesh inside the burn chamber that is now hot. More fuel is pumped in which now runs into the burn chamber mesh, vaporises, mixes with the intake air and it burned. The hotter it gets the better it works.

Hi David, Now that you have cut off the end of the Heater so that we can see inside the Burn Chamber, how about extending it by pushing a 5 foot length of Steel Tube the same diameter as the Burn Chamber into the hole No need to Weld it or anything, just make it a Push Fit, so that it can be easily removed then cut a Hole in the Top and Bottom of a 45 Gallon Barrel and then Weld this 5ft extension Tube Top and Bottom into those holes in the Barrel Then Lay the Barrel on its Side, on some sort of Cradle so that it is about one Foot clear of the Ground, then sit the Heater on a Platform so that the Tube sticking out of the Barrel, is the same height as the Tube in the Burn Chamber Then just push them together, so that the Tube sticking out of the Barrel can be pushed into the hole of the Burn Chamber so they mate together, as both Tubes are the Same Diameter Then Fill the Barrel with Water, using the hole where a Drum Tap usually goes, leaving that Hole open, having first revolved the Drum, so that this Hole would be at the Top instead of the Bottom, to let the Steam out Having done that, Start up the Heater and then with any luck, you should soon have a 45 Gallon Drum of Hot Water! Love your Channel, Liked and Subscribed

I think the biggest problem is the heat exchanger but the achieve some of your goals you can just drop a lot of the diesel here components. You could regulate the flow of oil using a pin valve and gravity feed that and you could eliminate the fan using a flu. So this whole thing could run almost with nothing and all you really need is a timer for the glow plug or you click it once and it heats up for 2 minutes or whatever and then shut itself off so then you can do this with a tiny little portable battery
@awesomecat9470
@awesomecat9470 4 күн бұрын
My opinion is the biggest problem is the crap that remains from the wmo. So what's really needed is a quicker way to be able to clean out the burn chamber and my idea would be to focus on how to quickly pop open the burn chamber and clean it out basically by some press Clips or something so that you don't have to get all these tools and Allen wrenches screwdrivers or whatever to get to it it should be field serviceable with zero tools. That would be ideal and obviously to handle the wvo and the wmo better the idea of a little heated cup that is an extension of the glow plug would be helpful to Aid in the vaporization rather than just the little screen which then will drip a lot of the heavier oils from the oil. And also the dual fuel tank of pure diesel versus the waste oil products and switching between them easily would be my second choice of what's needed

I didn't catch past heart mentions but if you have afib (causes high heart rate) check out ablation if amiodarone and metroprolol is not working. The meds can also make you feel tired. Violinists use metoprolol to steady their hands. Ablation freezes the overactive cells no real major issues with that procedure in my 13 years of experience. My wife works in the cath lab and I'm in the ICU so we see it a lot. Best wishes!

Hey McLuckie, I have the AB after watching your video years ago and saw you on the FB a few times and all your vids - We appreciate everything you do! Is it silicone or rubber, seems like the silicone might not crack and breakdown as fast. Hey I was wondering if you could look into carbon break down like "creasote destroyer" for stoves. We have chimney sweep logs for stoves, creasote destroyer pellets for pellet stoves, as well as powder and even spray you can add to coals and wood respectively. Meeco's and Rutland make the creosote destroyers and looks like they are kerosene, some minerals and other stuff to dry out and flake the creasote off. I'm thinking something like add the liquid destroyer or Lucas diesel injector cleaner to the diesel all the time if it runs well or even a tank of kerosene to make it even cleaner accasionally. I wonder if anything would eat away at the carbon on the screens in a jar, then I could test it in a heater. Just brain storming and thought of you and your experiments. Running 24/7 my glo plug atomizer screens seem to gum up every 3 months and just started tossing out white smoke again like clockwork :( I wish the AB modes could run high to temp then say 2.0 htz instead of low, just to prevent carbonization at lower temps. I am going to fiddle with just running at fixed htz but I really like the timers to heat things up in the morning before my shower and before I get home. I had to replace all my inner chambers after a couple years when those none replaceable screens became the major issue of clogging. If you get a chance Inthink it could be a cool video for tens of thousands of people as screens seems to be the major issue after tuning solves the sooting up. Again, THANKS man for everything you do! Cool idea. All of mine seem to be mounded on the wall of something. I also use zip ties through the rubber mounting hole to a screw with 2 on each side of the mount with the zip tie tails facing towards the wall to keep it floating off all surfaces to prevent noise transmission. The lower db will travel farther and through more surfaces. If the new mount doesnt crack and fall apart in a year it would be nice.

I'm pretty sure the instructions for that heater specify to only run it with the intake and exhaust ports facing down, not on its side or upside down. At least mine said that. I'm not entirely clear why this is though other than the location of the glow plug being at the bottom.

Could you just weld an exhaust pipe where you cut the case? wondering if this would be better for burning used motor oil as fuel without soot buildup. Since the spot would have a straight shot out the back.

Great video! Question: I've got 2 identical CDH from the same manufacturer. One maintains a consistent internal temperature around 405°f no matter the setting. My other one's internal temperature varies from 325°f on low to 390°f on high. They both seem to work well. My question is, should the combustion chamber temperature vary according to the heat settings or should it remain relatively consistent across the range of settings? Thanks ✌️

Stirling uses a gas, which is compressible. Think liquid Stirling. Malone used liquid - much more torque. Hydraulics amplify force and transfers heat much more effectively than air.

I just bought a used one for £250 fitted to a carrera bike, was going ok , but then the display broke ,although it did have a crack so was damaged by previous owner , but was working for a bit then just stopped , just fitted a new display , same as one in this video , and is going well again , I live in devon and it gets me up some good hills , is only mainly for short distances , but will get me to asda and back prob 2 or 3 times , 3 mile round journey each time , I found a way can attach a bigger battery with a proper cable to the swytch system battery connect end, so I may do that , I was worried the controller part had gone , but seeing as i only paid 250 took a gamble on a new display for £30 , I'm fairly happy with it as I didn't spend a lot, before i replaced the display I was considering fitting a 48v controller and a bigger battery , if I were to get an ebike again I would build my own as would be much cheaper, the only issue I have is when the power is low after using for a few miles, and you ask for a lot of demand ie on a steep hill, it will cut out ,even if there is enough power for a few more miles of flat , I think does this to protect battery as is small , you have to wait until the natural chemistry of the battery builds the volts back up ,I may sell and build one myself on my other carrera bike one day using a conversion kit, or I may attach a bigger battery the swytch one

@@DavidMcLuckie @DavidMcLuckie No I wouldn't cos I know I can get a battery over double the size for half the price, they've made it so you have to use " THEIR "parts" for a premium, which is naughty in my eyes , but to be fair all's fair in love and war lol , it is a good idea/design (bar the battery not exactly able to be "put in pocket" as they make out in an add vid) they have put the work in , it has introduced me to ebiking, I like how the battery is kinda "hidden" so it looks like a normal bike , I actually came back to update my o.p , after riding yesterday, when I had the cut out issue on a fairly steep climb , I just turned down the power assist to around 2 and putting a bit more effort into peddling (not much really) and was fine , I made it and then carried on using for a good more distance with good speeds , I think you just have to put slightly more work in with this set up and not have on full power on a steep hill with a small battery, especially if the battery is not full , on a steep hill , you'd think that's when you need most power, and I do if the battery is full, but if it's asking for more than the battery can give you turn power down to P2 , you still get enough of an assist to make it. It's prob good for people with a few quid who don't mind spending a bit more for the convenience and stealth , for the rest of us though nope lol, but yeah am fairly happy with it for the price , I'm about to fit a bigger battery and wire it up to the swytch controller , then shouldn't get the cut out issue any more and more distance, happy days , would I pay the full price for this and be happy ? no way , maybe £250 for wheel and addons max, then around another £150 max !!!, for battery (max version) , just for the design , so yeah about £400 maybe £450 if being generous for this kit , but not £600/700+ that's just seems a bit greedy

There is no physical difference between the 5kw and 8kw heaters, only the electronics. Most 8kw heaters have a minimum pump pulse of 1.6Hz while most 5kw goes down to 1.4Hz. Each pulse is usually .022ml. The controller and motherboard can be easily changed out for around $30, there are many options.

You're close. There is no such thing as an 8KW diesel heater. It's marketing wank. We've done the tests. There is a 9KW in China that is about twice the size of the 4KW, and Hcalory made a 6.5KW which has a slightly larger body than the 4KW. For all intents and purpose there are two heater sizes, a 2KW and 4KW. Which are physically different sizes. The 8KW is a 4KW and lies about its output.

I’ve got one of these and 🤞 it is still working. Original cost (2011) was about £2k more than a normal gas boiler of the same output but added 1kw of electricity. It was eventually discontinued by Baxi because the engines failed after about 2 and replaced under warranty. My lat change was 2019 so maybe they were a bit premature in abandoning it. Cost wise I’ve had my money back in FIT and energy not bought. The bit top right is the motorised valve to control the air to the 2 burners. 6kw burner to drive the engine and 18?kw variable to provide the rest of heating power. Heating burner is modulated so it cuts back as required room temp with the aim of balancing so engine burner stays on.

They were a nice idea. But they worked differently to what I expected. I assumed they used waste heat to drive the engine, but instead the engines waste heat heats the water. Just need to figure out how to control this engine.
