Great channel I came across, would be interesting if you could go into any second brain tips and how you manage to trace which content goes on which notebook especially since they’re not searchable! Also perhaps some content on maintaining fountain pens in good condition / cleaning process! Good luck for 2025

Hello ive been watching your videos and they are great. Keep up with the good work man👍🏽. But i have a question. I bought field notes a week ago and it feels like its tearing apart already. Im afraid of folding it in half because it feels like it will fall apart. How do you keep your field notes in good condition. And always have the cover closed
@BlankFirstPage5 сағат бұрын
Thank you for watching! I haven't had many FN notebooks that tear apart - they definitely wear in, but I do that on purpose, I beat them up as much as I can. I've only had 2 or 3 where the cover has actually come off, those have lived a particularly tough life. I'd say if you want to avoid wear at all costs, a good leather cover will do the trick - apparently some of the Traveler's notebook covers will fit a FN. In terms of keeping the cover closed, I kind of force it that way by keeping the notebook mostly in my pocket (and closed), that sort of 'trains' the notebook to stay closed. Hope that helps!

@ thank you so much for the answer and your time i really appreciate it. Well i’ll test it out👍🏽

I would refer to the Atoma notebook as disc bound rather than ring bound. In USA the best maker is Levinger. If you get the punch you can use any paper

I love Kokuyo Field Sketch books and I use Sailor pigmented fountain pen inks: - Seiboku, Souboku and Kiwaguro. These behave very well with Kokuyo’s paper and there’s no feathering or bleeding through the pages. I hope that helps.

I also started using Mitsubishi pencils this year! I have been using the Blackwing 602 and Natural pencils for the last few years, but since I have returned to school to study music, I go through too many pencils to afford keeping a ready supply of Blackwings. I have found that the Mitsubishi 9852EW is the best analogue to the Blackwing Natural at a fraction of the price. So, now I keep a supply of the 9852EWs for my everyday use, and save my Blackwings for more meaningful use (like compositions, more formal documentation, and drawing). I also started using the Mitsubishi KH-20 sharpener for desk use, which I have found makes a much better and cleaner point than my Blackwing/Kum handheld sharpener. I also got a black cat PuniLabo stand-up pen case because it looks like my cat : ).

I love your drawings!! I’m using a Midori A6 notebook as my current commonplace notebook and really love it. That was new for me in 2024. Field Notes are a daily staple and I go through about 12-15 a year now. I credit you with that usage. I regularly use Apica A5 notebooks for writing. My work notebook continues to be a Traveler’s Notebook. There have been a couple of fountain pen additions. The winner of these purchases was the Diplomat Aero. Form factor and writing experience made it difficult to move out of the rotation. I think 2024 is when I really came to appreciate Sailor Inks. I succumbed to the Blackwing pencils in 2024 and immediately understood why they are so loved. This year I jumped into the Hobonichi Techo weeks as a personal planner/daily task keeper. I keep reviews of books as one use of the notes section. So far, I’m enjoying it. Unpacking various tidbits of the day has been a great brain declutter. I wasn’t expecting that benefit.

Thank you and thanks for sharing! Apica paper is excellent, I can understand why you enjoy that one. Will have to check out the Diplomat Aero, not a pen I'm familiar with. And glad to hear you are firmly on the FN and Blacking wagons!

I liked the Pilot G2 as well, but then I stumbled over the Pilot Synergy Point 0.5 and it quickly took the G2s place as one of my edc-pens. I find it very suitable for especially smaller notebooks like Field Notes. Very nice ink flow on it and I find myself wanting to write more and fill the pages with "neat & tidy" text because of its fine tip and control, very satisfying. (and I usually like 0.7 and write "big & bold")

As a belgian I didn't even know that Atoma was a brand from around here. In high school I would have an Atoma notebook that I would take to school and every evening the notes would be transfered to the different notebooks at home for every different class I took that day. Through uni I stopped using it. But recently I have gone back to my old atoma A5 notebook and set it next to me on my desk to capture things.

Most of the stationery I used last year was inspired by you Lukas! Notebooks: Field Notes (I go through one a month and my favourite is the Birds of North America edition which I've just bought and started); Muji A5 notebook; a great Italian notebook my dad bought me years ago which has maps of cities of the world on it, with quotes from famous writers and artists about each city in Italian (I don't have it on me as I type this, so I'll get the brand for you later). Writing instruments: Blackwing 602s; TWSBI Eco; Kaweco Classic Sport fountain pen (best compact fountain pen in my opinion); Kaweco Brass rollerball pen; Lamy Pico (RIP - I dropped it somewhere); Looking forward to more great videos in 2025!

After using the Pilot G2 0.38 pen as an everyday working pen I am trying out the G2 mini that others say fit in the front pants pocket. I was interested in using it where it keeping a regular sized G-2 is too long it won’t stay with a logbook. So far so good for this task. Won’t be replacing my 30 year old Parker fountain pen though.

Whenver my field notes get to the 6 week mark the cover gets close to tearing off. Yours look like the cover is intact but maintains wear. Do you use tape? Or do you have a technique to prevent the covers from tearing away?
@BlankFirstPage3 күн бұрын
I don't use tape. It's interesting you say that as I think I've only had 1 or two over the years where the cover comes completely off. I proactively try to wear them in pretty roughly. Maybe you bend them over themselves at the spine? That's what I think could cause the area for the staples to wear off

Watching this video made me in the mood for pencils... I would like to try the Tombow Mono 100 and the Mitsubishi. I have to admit I am not that impressed by the Blackwing extra firm... I mean, I really do want to love them (they are cool, good design, love the eraser) but in the end I find the dollar store HB pencils more pleasing to write with...

Pencils are great! If you’re not a fan of the blackwings, the tombow or Mitsubishi are good alternatives. Whatever works for you, nothing wrong with a dollar store pencil, even better in fact because they’re more readily available!
