You made a good point about the difficulty when renting a car if the trail is not a loop around. Are taxis readily available? I have heard mixed reviews about this.

It pains me so much I couldn't visit. Maybe next time or I'll order a bottle through a friend. Till then I have to satisfy myself with a bottle of aguardente from Engenho da Calheta and I tell you guys: it's a really smelly flavorbomb. I can't even imagine how Reizinhos rum must taste like if that's the quality of cheap industrial madeiran rum.

Been to barbusano this past Saturday. Utterly disgusted at 20 euros per person. Wines are below entry level. The rosé looks like Kool aid/drink o pop. The SA Winelands have world-class wines for so much cheaper.

What a disappointment. Watched this video. Couldn't wait to go there. I'm from South Africa Cape Town. Studied up to diploma in wine and have been making wine since 2015 as a garagiste wine maker. Barbusana wine are of such bad quality. Very dissapointed. 20 euros is a rip off, in the Cape Town Winelands you pay less than half of that for world glass wines. What a waste of time, Gina who served us was knowledgeable and great. The other 2 staff members useless. Cape Town South Africa. 🇿🇦🇵🇹🇨🇺🍷🦓🥂

There was a Presbyterian chapel in Machico too. Just noting that the Madeiran refugees came to the then British Caribbean (not Dutch). 😀

Madeirans visited Illinois in 1999 for the 150th anniversary of the Jacksonville churches and probably other times. You can ask Jacinto Cláudio Baptista de Gouveia, the President of the Associação Robert Reid Kalley in Funchal. The physical building of the Madeiran church in Port-of-Spain in Trinidad is older than the one in Funchal. Not all of the Madeiran refugees left Trinidad - hundreds stayed right here (e.g., the family of Sir Sam Mendes). Those who went to the US and set up Trinidad School there in Jacksonville named it in honour of and in tribute to Trinidad as their first place of refuge. Trinidad promoted freedom of worship, and was the first place to welcome Portuguese Protestant refugees and the first place where Portuguese was used in Protestant worship outside of Portugal. It was not that conditions were that bad (otherwise they would not have given the Sunday School that name). It was primarily that the USA was Protestant and promised lands and more, plus Trinidad was also Catholic, and more and more Catholic Portuguese were coming to Trinidad. The Kalley churches in Brazil are also alive and well. You can also check out Ferreira Fernandes' RTP documentary and book called 'Madeirenses Errantes' and Katherine Vaz's novel "Above the Salt" and a huge reading list on the Madeira Exiles and Portuguese of the West Indies websites and Facebook pages.

Thank you, this video was more about the culture of our food and less about “where to eat it” that first place I went to, hadn’t been in there in years in fact it may have been my first time. So apologies for not making that 100% clear, we’ve got a great food vlog coming out in the next few weeks which will be our best yet so hang in there. And if you’re visiting, if you book one of our tours, you’ll get our “best 35 restaurants on the island google maps link” free of charge, so no pausing and searching needed ;) All the best and Hope you stick around, Jeff 🤠

@HittheroadmadeiraАй бұрын

Or should I say what an awesome video!? I have no idea, you tell me. Either way I cannot speak your language, as I'm a Brazilian man, we do speak different languages and I learned this the hard (and funny) way last time I spent some time on a road trip in Northern Portugal, the land of my grandmother.
@HittheroadmadeiraАй бұрын

Thanks for the video and all the tips, you seems to be very experienced in camping! Question on simplifica website, in case if i would like to stay overnight from (for example) Jan 10 till Jan 11, what day should I book at simplifica? Jan 10? I booked Jan 10 and got the permit from Jan 10, 00:00 till 23:59. Is it correct or idea is to book both days? Thanks!
