I have this machine and love it so much. The Schmetz 206x13 90/14 needles fit it perfectly. It sews stretch and heavy fabrics so well with beautiful stitch quality and never gives me any trouble.

Very nice sewing machine, although it might probably be from 1930. I'm just familiarizing myself with a Jones Family CS #168884...

My Singer 319K sewing machine was set to a 15x1 needle when my cousin gave it to me. And while testing it, the needle broke and it stopped making Zig Zag and decorative stitches. When you press the stitch key, they go up and down. And when I add 1 to 5 mm in the decorative stitches, the needle column moves from the center to the left or right and stops like a moving engine. I don't know what happened, but the column in the decorative stitches doesn't move on its own like it used to. The Singer 319 can sew straight very well. But in decorative stitches it doesn't work, because the needle column is inert. What could have happened?

Good information on the needle bar height. But the 2 screws you show for setting hook timing aren't the right ones. Loosen the three screws just to the left of the safety clutch instead. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you a million times for demystifying the needle size. Just bought a green 319 in a small cabinet for $25. Very clean but the stitch length lever was broken off which I didn't notice until I got it home. New lever is ordered and it looks like an easy install. I believe that the previous owner did not understand that the large screw locks the stitch length lever and must be loosened before moving it. It was broken it off trying to change position without loosening the screw. Sad face.

Thank you for sharing this! I have the white model 967 and inherited it from my grandmother… you showed me what I was doing wrong with the tensioner and this has solved the problem I’ve been struggling with for a while!! Much appreciated!

I love the sound of these hand crank and treadle vibrating shuttle sewing machines! They always bring back fond memories of the sounds an antique farm tractor working in a field off in the distance!

I inherited my grandmothers sewing machine, that she used to make my baby clothes on and when my modern brother sewing machine died because it’s made of plastic. I pulled my grandmas out and I didn’t know how to use it. So thank you. It means so much to me.

Great video, I know you produced this 11 years ago so know it is still so appreciated, I have been curious about how the levers and cams work on this machine and I now know, also thank you for talking and showing about the needles it uses.
