I thought this was for a SSD drive but your video is for a conventional HDD
@PatrickJacobs Жыл бұрын
Yes SSD drives work much different. In the time of publishing conventional HDD's were still more common as external disks. I might record one for SSD disks in the future. Thanks for the comment.

Thanks, great stuff. I got to the part where I dislodged the stuck needle but it wasn't able to read any data. Any chance you have a video on how to replace the needle / its unit using a donor drive? Having a hard time taking the needle out because I can't disassemble the metal corner piece that's holding it in place.

I sure people didnt even know that Seagate doesnt even repair their own external drives. They dont even recommend places that do repairs because it is not part of their policy. PLease if you read this, NEVER BUY A SEAGATE external drive. They are not Reliable!

Thanks for your video. I'm here because i had these problems some years back. I had a drive that failed and then ten years later it started up. I must have bumped it. The lesson is to make loads of back ups and thanks to videos like yours, to remember never to give up.
@RossWyatt3 жыл бұрын
I have two BUP Slims from Seagate. Neither of them will read anymore because I slightly bumped them. I don't have the tools to open it and I tried following this guide to initialize it but I got a Fatal Hardware error. I'm at a loss. I do have a Warranty for one but I don't know how to use it and I'm worried I would just lose my data.
@PatrickJacobs3 жыл бұрын
Best go to your local data recovery center. To avoid risk of losing data. If you do not get the sound you hear in the beginning, then it is probably something else. Data recovery centers can transfer the spinning disk to other hardware and try to recover the data this way. Good luck with the recovery.

Good to hear. Nah. I would not trust it. You can of course, but I would not put anything on it of value to you. Better upgrade to a nice SSD.

you are an awesome person for posting this tutorial. i have yet to do this because i don't understand the part of cloning my drive and can't risk losing 20 years of all my kids photos, but i'll figure it out. thank you so much
@PatrickJacobs3 жыл бұрын
Dear John. Thank you for your comment. Please realise that this method is a bit of a last resort in the situation that the needle is stuck. (you can hear it). If your data is essentials there are professional data recovery experts who can do this in a clean room (without dust) with less risk. This method helped many but is not totally without the risk of failure. When the needle is unstuck you should be able to copy the data after closing the harddisk and putting the screws back.

Hi thank you so much for sharing this with us. I'm going to do this with mines. I have a question, what happens after you do all this fix. I need to build it up again? I've seen some videos saying you should not use it without assembling due to the dust risk damage. So what's next after this? Can build it up again? I need a SATA to USB cable? or I can still use normally the Seagate conection to mac? Thanks in advance!
@PatrickJacobs3 жыл бұрын
Easiest way is with a sata to usb connection but you can build it up again if you do not have it. My. advise is to make a backup immediately and then replace the disk with a new one or even with an SSD. The chance that the disk crashes again is too big to use it again. Even though the disk in the clip is still working actually. If you were careful (and quick) not much dust particles landed and there is a small dust filter in this disk if I remember correctly. At your own risk naturally but I never had any issues. On a sidenote I like your guitar playing on your channel. You should record more.

@@PatrickJacobs Thank you so much! Sure... I don't know lots of recovery data places here, so I'm gonna do it by myself, always liked "tech" stuff and I've fixed some other kind of devices. So... let's hope everything ends well! I will let you know when I do it. And yes, if it works I will immediately transfer files to another SSD. Wow thank you man! hahah actually I have some videos playing guitar (which are on the not-working External Hard Disk haha) and I was going to upload them but yeah, I had this issue.

@@PatrickJacobs Sorry to bother again, which SATA cable should I buy? the SATA must be for 2,5'' right? not 3'' and would be from SATA to USB type A or SATA micro B a USB type A? Thanks in advance!

@@jusssi9570 If you type SATA to USB Cable - USB 3.0 to 2.5” SATA III Hard Drive Adapter into Amazon or your preferred on-line shop you should get the right result.

To add my appreciation to the other comments: I cannot tell you how helpful this was. Our hard drive wasn't recognized by any computer and was making the same glitchy noise. Seagate tech support simply said the hard drive was out of warranty and could not help. Our local digital data retailer wouldn't touch it. I followed this tutorial and it came back to life like magic.

Thank you. I have a 1 TB SEAGATE BACKUP PLUS EXTERNAL HDD . I use it by attaching it with my honor 7x mobile through OTG for data transfer (bothside). I purchased it 11 months back from flipkart. I use it max once or twice in a month. I used it with desktop 3 times only since purchased. Yesterday when i was working with in by attaching it my mobile , suddenly one beep sound came and HDD light turned off. I performed safe remove process from top bar and after few seconds , it showed that " its safe to remove now" . I removed it and reattached it with mobile but no light no detection. Then again i removed safely and attached it in Sony laptop. It showed new usb driver installation. After completion of the same , no pop up came , no light on HDD , no drive shown in my computer . Then I went to printer & devices and found that it is showing the HDD there but when I went to its properties ; there is blank in VOLOUME TAB . In GENERAL TAB it is showing " device type : disk drive ; manufacturer : standard disk drive ; Location : on USB mass storage device ; device status : this device is working properly " . Another msg shows " windows cannot use this hardware device because it has been prepared for safe removal but it has not been removed from the computer (code 47) . To fix the problem , unplug this device from your computer and then plug in again ". I unmounted safely it by right clicking . Then reattached the same . Result is still same. Then removed. Restarted the laptop , attached again... same results... pls advise

My computer ca not conect to the HD it is all imposible to observe in My computer (to recognize this external HDD). The led (the light) it is on flash light ... and I have a strange noise like a repetive beep. What do you think is the reason, do you think it is possible to recuperate my External HDD ? My Seagate Slim Problem after 1 Month.. always Stuck at 20%.. 😣😣

Thanks for the amplified sound symptoms, which I recognised was consistent with my problem Seagate 1TB Backup Plus (with a USB3 connector/adapter to the concealed SATA and power) and an all black plastic case. Guessing it was the same stuck head, I decided not to dismantle at all, but by pinching the drive between finger and thumb across the large flat sides, and with the drive surface then positioned vertically, I just lightly tapped the long, thin, side edge of the drive on my knee a couple of times, and reconnected: Bingo! Not too sure if there is any corruption, but drive is now working normally, as far as I can tell.
